What does the river chub bite on in August? How to choose a spinning rod for chub fishing? Best fishing spots

One of the most interesting fishing objects for anglers is the chub. Recently, chub is most often purposefully caught by fly fishing or spinning using spinners, wobblers and jig baits, although catching chub with a float rod can be no less productive and exciting.

About the chub

The chub or, scientifically, Squalius cephalus is a large fish of the carp family. In the literature there are references to giants weighing up to two pounds, but the existence of such chubs was already in doubt during the time of Sabaneev. Today, a chub weighing more than two kilograms can well be considered a trophy, and its maximum weight reaches 5–6 kg. This strong and beautiful fish is most common in small and medium-sized rivers and is practically never found in reservoirs with stagnant water.

Chub is a large fish of the carp family.

Chub spawning

One of the characteristics of the chub is that, unlike most fish, it continues to bite during spawning. Chub begin to spawn when they reach three years of age and weigh 150–200 g. Spawning takes place when the water warms up to 12–15 °C, i.e. from April to June, depending on the region. A sign of the beginning of spawning can be the flowering of bird cherry. Chub spawn in the current, in places with a rocky or gristly bottom.

Where to look for chub

In small and medium-sized rivers, the favorite habitats of the chub are:

  • riffles;
  • holes near steep banks;
  • tree crowns hanging over the water;
  • large snags and boulders.

In large rivers and reservoirs, chub stay near holes leading to shallows and near large submerged objects. The chub also gravitates towards artificial structures - bridge piles, dams, piers.

There is no point in looking for chub in places with a muddy bottom, as well as in creeks and bays overgrown with algae.

Contrary to the fisherman's expectations, the chub often stands in the current not behind an obstacle, but right in front of it, collecting food that the water brings.

In large rivers and reservoirs, the chub stays near the pits

What do you use to catch chub?

Considering the omnivorous nature of the chub, you can catch it with almost any equipment: a float rod, spinning rod, bottom tackle and fly fishing. At the same time, the choice of baits and artificial baits is simply huge.

Nozzles can be:

  • bread;
  • corn;
  • peas;
  • steamed grains of wheat or pearl barley;
  • chicken liver and other entrails;
  • pieces of lard, meat, sausage or frankfurters;
  • whole cherries and mulberries.

The following are used as bait:

  • worm - earthworm or crawling;
  • live bait - preferably with a narrow body (bleak, minnow or minnow);
  • frog;
  • leech;
  • various insects during their emergence (especially the May beetle and grasshoppers).

Worm for bait

Many traditional baits for catching chub are no longer used due to their low availability:

  • crayfish meat;
  • blood clots;
  • lamprey larva.

When and where is the chub caught on a regular bait

Fishing for chub with a float rod can be carried out throughout the open water season. In early spring, immediately after the ice melts and before the water becomes cloudy, the chub emerges from its wintering pits and begins to feed in preparation for spawning. At this time, he is caught in the wiring in the lower layers of the water.

As the water bodies warm up, the chub gradually moves to shallows and riffles, while its taste preferences change. The warmer the water, the more the chub is located to plant baits.

In the summer, after insects begin to emerge, the best bait for catching chub on a float are beetles, grasshoppers, and dragonflies. It is better to catch them in the upper layers of the water or on its surface. At this time, camouflage is especially important - if a chub notices an angler, you don’t have to wait for a bite.

In the fall, the colder the water, the easier it is to catch a chub using live bait or bait of animal origin. In late autumn, the activity of chub decreases, but its fishing can continue until freeze-up. At the same time, the closer the winter, the less often the chub appears in shallow water.

Catching a chub with a float rod

The chub feeds both during the day and at night. However, in summer the best bite occurs in the morning and evening dawns, and in spring and autumn - after 10–11 o’clock, when the water warms up a little. At night, the largest specimens usually peck.

Rod and reel

To catch chub on a float, you can use both fly rods and fishing rods with running equipment. The choice is determined by the fishing conditions, but a fishing rod equipped with a reel has more options. It is better to use a carbon fiber rod, because it is held in your hands, and you have to cast the rod quite often. The most versatile rod length is 5-6 meters.

Coils are used inertialess. You need to choose models with even laying of the fishing line and the ability to finely adjust the friction brake. Today, almost any reel, except the cheapest, can cope with this task.

Catching chub with a fly rod is effective only in those places where the fish comes close to the shore:

  • between trees and bushes growing on the shore;
  • on steep banks;
  • at bridges, piers and other structures.

Need a rod length of 5-6 meters for chub fishing

Lines and leashes

To equip a float fishing rod, it is recommended to use a main line with a diameter of 0.16–0.18 mm and leashes of 0.12–0.16 mm. The use of fluorocarbon leashes is desirable, but not required. In combination with modern rods and reels, these diameters are enough to cope with chub of any size. Recommendations for the use of lines 0.25 mm and larger are replicated on the Internet, but are outdated. Their source is fishing literature from the times when the only fishing lines available were Klin and Chernigov.

Sinkers and hooks

The load should be sufficient to deliver the hook with the nozzle to the required depth, but not excessive. Too heavy a load coarsens the tackle and reduces its sensitivity. The carrying capacity of the float must correspond to the weight of the sinker. To catch chub with a float rod, floats with a dough of 1.5–3.5 g are usually used.

It is better to choose hooks from carp series from well-known manufacturers. The size of the hook must match the size of the bait. The length of the leash is from 15 cm to half a meter.

How to assemble a half-bottom with a float for chub

If it is necessary to hold the bait in one place, then by moving the float to the tip of the rod, the float rod can be turned into a half-bottom. The bite will be visible by the vibrations of the float, which is located 20–30 centimeters above the water level. Most often, this technique is resorted to in the spring and early summer, when strong currents prevent comfortable wiring. If necessary, the weight of the sinker can be increased by adding several pellets to the load.

If fishing conditions require the use of sinkers weighing more than 12–15 g, it is better to use bottom gear - a picker or a feeder.

It is best to catch chub on a feeder

Choosing a float for chub

When fishing for chub, it is important to consider not only the carrying capacity and shape of the float, but also its color. Brightly colored floats can simply scare away wary fish. Moreover, the shallower the fishing depth, the more inconspicuous the float should be. When fishing on the surface, it is better to use transparent water-filled floats that simulate an air bubble. They are used without additional loading, and the length of the leash is increased to 1–1.5 meters.

An improvised replacement for a water-filling float can be a piece of a branch, not cleared of bark, 8–12 cm long and about a centimeter in diameter. Swimming horizontally, it looks natural and does not alarm the chub.

Chub bites

The chub bites on the move, confidently sinking the float, but when it feels the resistance of the fishing line, it can throw the bait. Therefore, there is no need to delay cutting. The hook should be quick and short, as a too strong and sweeping jerk can lead to the line breaking. To reduce the number of empty bites, it is better to leave the hook tip open.

Often, when purposefully catching chub with a fishing rod, anglers do not use bait, downplaying its importance. In fact, the rule: “as you feed, so will you catch” is true for all carp fish, except asp.

The best bait for chub

The easiest way is to buy ready-made bait, special chub bait or universal bait.

The most attractive odors for chub are:

  • vanilla;
  • strawberry;
  • chocolate;
  • cherry;
  • seafood.

The consistency of the bait is determined by the fishing conditions:

  • when fishing from the bottom - dense balls, with soil (earth, clay) for weighting;
  • when fishing in mid-water - balls that break when they hit the water, or geyser-type bait. This will create a trail of particles that attract chub in the water column;
  • When fishing from above, the same bait is used as bait as for bait - bread crusts, insects, etc.

When making bait yourself, you use cake (usually sunflower, but you can use hemp, flax and others), breadcrumbs, and various grains. It is highly advisable to add animal components to the bait. Dry blood is very effective, especially in cold water.

Taking into account the caution and good vision of the chub, it is necessary to select bait that does not stand out in color at the bottom. A bright spot on the bottom is more likely to scare away than attract the chub.

August is the best month for me to hunt chub. During this period, I completely devote myself to catching bigmouths with ultra-light spinning rods and crank wobblers. The predator takes consistently, and often comes across weighty specimens. The fish feeding period lasts until the second half of September or until the first steady cold snap.

In August, the chub gradually stops feeding directly from the surface. Now “splash” bites occur much less frequently than in the first half of summer. The bulk of attacks are observed at depths from 30 cm to a meter. Moreover, contacts are always confident, idle strikes or derailments are infrequent.

In my region in August the main size of fish caught on the hook is from 200 to 700 grams. The capture of a kilogram specimen is also not uncommon. Under favorable circumstances, it is possible to take a trophy of over a kilo. The heaviest specimen, which I managed to entice to bite and successfully hatch, pulled in 2,700 kg, and this happened just at the end of summer.

To summarize the brief introduction, I would like to say that August is the best time for those who want to master fishing for bigheaded fish on the UL. You should not miss this period when you can try out many models of cranks and experiment with fishing tactics and techniques.

Where do I fish?

In August, the chub continues to stay in its usual places, but only sinks a little deeper, without showing increased activity from the surface. I catch bigmouth on both small and medium-sized rivers. As a rule, I fish from a boat, floating downstream and catching promising points.

On small rivers, special attention is paid to the following places:

  • riffles;
  • single flooded snags;
  • tree branches hanging over the water;
  • bridge supports, old mills, and other hydraulic structures.

On medium rivers, my favorite places are the steep corners of the rivers. It is better to choose steep yars with trees. The big-headed fish are attracted here by their shadow and insects falling into the water. In addition, fallen trunks and branches form excellent shelters, where you can hide from strong flows and larger predators, and also conveniently attack prey from here.

The strong downward current, which is present on any steep slope, carries a lot of food. It also washes into the shore various pockets, ledges and other shelters where the chub feels comfortable and safe. It is dispersed along the steep yar, occupying the most promising points. An experienced spinning chub fisherman immediately determines where the fish will stand and where it is not worth wasting time on idle fishing of the bait.

What do I catch?

For the August chub I use a kit that is more related to light than to UL. It looks like this:

  • Norstream Areal spinning rod model “AR-70 Sharpshooter”, 2.13 meters long, 3.5–12 grams;
  • Shimano Nasci 2500S reel with small profile spool;
  • Sunline Small Game Braided Line, #0.4 (0.105 mm) diameter.

As a leash, I use fluorocarbon fishing line with a thickness of 0.22–0.26 mm, to which I attach a small American fastener. These tackles are quite enough to successfully catch chub on any body of water with cranks weighing from 3 to 9 grams. Its advantages are:

  • good range;
  • ease;
  • confidently copes with stubborn wobblers;
  • reliably hooks and ties fish.

In cramped conditions, sometimes I change the “rod” to Banax Ultra US60ULF2 with a test for baits of 0.7–6.0 grams, 1.83 meters high. Despite the stated test, the fishing rod is endowed with a colossal margin of safety, therefore it allows you to fish with baits weighing up to 10 grams.

What do I fish with?

As mentioned above, the number one bait for me in August is the crankbait. These “little ones” consistently catch chub during this period, beating turntables, silicone and micro-oscillators. The main performance characteristics of a catchable wobbler are:

  • size from 3 to 6 cm;
  • weight from 3 to 9 grams;
  • working horizon from 0.3 to 1.2 meters, optimally 0.5–0.7 meters;
  • stable play on a strong jet, regardless of the speed of the stroke and the angle of delivery.

It has been noticed that in my region the bighead prefers dark-colored baits in August. These can be completely black or brown wobblers, dirty green, dark blue and other colors. Dark cranks with bright stripes or spots work, attracting the attention of a predator, stimulating it to grab and acting as an attack point for the fish.

The most catchy cranks in my arsenal, for many years in a row, are:

  • Smith Camion (versions SR, DR, Magnum SR);
  • Jackall Chubby 38F;
  • Pontoon21 Red Rag 36F SR and its smaller version, the new Baby Red Rag SR;
  • Incubator Drop 75 and Incubator Rush 60;
  • Megabass Baby Griffon;
  • Zipbaits Hickory SR.

The baits from Tsuribito performed well. In some situations, Salmo's Hornet fires. When the probability of catching a trophy is high, I use Jackall Cherry or 10CC, which can cut chubs up to 300 grams and attract special attention from large individuals.

Afterword...

Every August my fishing starts approximately the same, with chub fishing trips. At first, the big-headed one takes it reluctantly, still observing the June-July feeding regime, especially in stable hot weather. But gradually his behavior changes, the bite becomes more confident, and his favorite promising “beds” begin to bear fruit.

It is a large freshwater fish of the dace genus of the carp family. In comfortable conditions, the fish can reach a length of 80 cm and a weight of 8 kg. Fishermen have to catch individuals up to 2-3 kg. In different regions, chub can also be called smut, maple, chub.

Fish Features:

  • likes small rivers with a moderate current
  • very often it can be observed at the surface of the water
  • very shy
  • likes slow moving artificial lures

Biting calendar

  • In winter, the chub feeds little; you can catch it only on the first and last ice.
  • After the ice breaks up, the fish become more active, the bite increases as the water warms up.
  • The chub's zhor is observed before spawning.
  • During the summer, the chub bites best during the flight of insects.
  • In autumn, the fish are capricious; most often they can be caught from the bottom.

Habitats

The main habitats of the chub are rivers with relatively clean water. The fish prefers small rivers with an abundance of vegetation or rich ichthyofauna.

  • In winter, the fish settle in wintering pits, gathering in large schools.
  • In the spring, before spawning, chubs rush to the upper reaches of rivers, entering small rivers.
  • In summer, they occupy sections of rivers with whirlpools, on the border of currents, near thickets of algae.

Chub feeding

The chub is an omnivorous fish. It can feed on green algae, plant seeds, grains, berries and fruits. But the main food of fish are insect larvae, leeches, worms, lamprey larvae, and frogs. Adults actively hunt for young fish. In winter, the chub feeds on benthic organisms, being active only at the beginning and end of winter.

Chub spawning

The chub is ready to breed at 2-3 years of age. When the water temperature reaches 12-17ºС, the mating season begins for the fish. In the middle zone this time falls on April-May. Fish spawn in schools, mating games last for several hours. Chub spawning grounds occur in flooded areas, bays, and oxbow lakes. The depth does not exceed 2-2.5 m. After spawning, the fish gets sick for a week, after which it begins to feed.

Finding a fishing spot

Chub can often be detected visually when the fish rises to the surface and walks in small groups. Favorite places for fish to stop are fallen trees, boulders, snags, channel edges, entrances and exits from pits. Steep banks with the presence of swallow holes become attractive sections of rivers for maple. In winter, you should look for chub in deep riverbeds and holes.

What baits does it respond to?

Chub fishing begins immediately after ice drift. In early spring, fish react to animal baits such as worms and bloodworms, and when the first insects appear, you should switch to surface fishing. Fishing with the cockchafer is especially interesting and rewarding. But the fish does not refuse steamed peas, river lamprey, as well as small wobblers and spinners. In autumn, it prefers such animal baits as crawlers, frogs, shellfish meat, and small baitfish. In winter, fishing is carried out using bloodworms.

Lure

When catching chub with peas, maggots, pearl barley, and worms, bait should be used. Since it is quite difficult to overfeed fish in the river, the bait mixture should contain large fractions, especially of the bait used for fishing. Feeding fish with pea grains is effective., the mouth and stomach of the caught fish are completely clogged with pea substance.

The best bait brands for chub: Sensas, Trapper, Dunaev, Richworth spicy flavors

Fishing methods

Float tackle in wiring. Use a light float and rig. The chub is very shy and large splashes from your heavy float will frighten it. And light tackle will easily float with the flow and eventually find its bite.

Every experienced spinning angler knows the seasonal peaks of fish activity. This information is taken from fishing literature, stories from friends and personal experience. It is known that the best time for catching chub in central Russia is May and June.
During this period, flowering of plants begins, a myriad of insects appear, and the water temperature rises. The chub rises to the surface and begins to fatten and it is easier to seduce him with a spinning bait at this time. So is it worth trying to catch chub in August?

Chub fishing in August

Until some time, I also caught chub only in May - June. However, the presence of several rivers within walking distance and the availability of time to travel to other bodies of water supplemented the well-known information with many nuances. Chub, it turns out, can be caught in June, and in July, and in August, and even in September! Moreover, in August the chub begins its second peak of activity. And no less productive than May or June. At this time, whitebait, crustacean, and leech begin to predominate in its diet. In this regard, a new small season opens for the spinner, when you can and should go fishing for chub.

Where to catch chub in August

One day, an old acquaintance asked me to go fishing with me. Since he was only taking the first steps in learning about spinning, he took every bush, every stream, every whirlpool and snag as a chub’s anchorage site. While I combed a kilometer-long section of the river in one direction and another, he advanced a maximum of one hundred meters. And there was nothing to say about the number of tails he caught. Such thoroughness may be useful, but not for catching chub in August. This fish loves not just a convenient place, but the most convenient area. And especially in August. So, the secrets of fishing for chub in August.

How to catch chub in August

  • How to catch a chub near a washed-out steep bank with a strong current. A typical resting place for chub. Usually a strong jet washes out peculiar pockets in the underwater part of the shore, in which a large big-headed chub stands. Sometimes at the end of such a place enough soil is washed up. The chub also does not miss such places, especially in the morning and evening.
  • How to catch chub in blowing streams. In such places, the underwater vegetation that has grown on the shore side closely borders the stream. And sometimes a chub can be found under the canopy of such grass. Apparently, he is satisfied with the oxygen regime and the abundance of food. There were no daily differences in parking in such places; chub are either present here or not.
  • How to catch a chub at a sharp bend in the river. A place where the river turns at an acute angle. A shallow spit forms in the inner part of the turn, and stuck snags are possible before and after the turn.
  • How to catch a chub in snags. This is one of the typical places where you can find chub. A massive tree that has fallen into the water accumulates driftwood and branches of various sizes every year. If the blockage is sprayed with a strong stream, and is not overgrown with grass and duckweed, then the chub simply must be in such a place.
  • How to catch chub on riffles and spits. Running into an obstacle, the jet creates the most comfortable places for the chub just below. However, the chub can be constantly present on large rifts. On local rifts it comes out to feed from evening to morning, the rest of the time it stays in other places.

Sites of large chub in August

As for the location of large chub, it varies depending on the time of day. Therefore, it is more difficult to catch large chub in August. In the morning and evening, the chub comes out to feed on the rifts, and during the day prefers to settle in a reserve place. Therefore, you should always pay attention to pits with snags near a riffle or a noticeable stream. It’s easier to catch chub in the morning and evening on the rift, and in the afternoon at the second point. This is information from my practice. For example, I once watched a chub. He stayed in the most inaccessible place, under thick tree branches, all day. Towards evening, he disappeared from sight and, most likely, was on the rift in search of food. For the sake of experiment, one morning I removed the hooks from the wobbler, threw it and ran it across the roll.

The bite took place right in the middle of the roll. For some time I even dragged a chub on a hookless bait. The next casts brought nothing. Having reduced the size of the bait, I caught four medium-sized chubs from the roll. Some time later, on a hot afternoon, this large forehead again found himself in the very wilds. Not being lazy, I crossed to the opposite bank and, with an accurate throw, got approximately to the level of its location. Two turns - and he still took the bait. This time there were hooks on the bait, and after a couple of minutes I brought the chub to the shore. It looked like it weighed about one and a half kilograms. It was not his size that pleased me, but the fact that I was able to calculate a pattern in his behavior. Of course, he was released back into his element.

Most often, the chub lives in flocks, sometimes quite numerous (20 - 50 individuals). This suggests that if it is possible to calculate the location of the chub, then it is possible to count on more than one tail from one place. So, I managed to catch 7-10 medium-sized individuals (150-400 g) from one place. If the bites have stopped and changing the direction of the wiring, model and color of the bait does not bring anything, then you should let this place rest and visit there a little later. During this time, the chub’s wariness will subside, and he will probably give you one or more bites.

Chub behavior varies somewhat depending on size. Small chub rarely move from a promising area. In August, these places, as they say, are already inhabited. All you have to do is find the place and pick up the bait. A large one, on the contrary, tends to change parking several times a day. So, if there is a riffle nearby, then from evening to morning the chub will definitely come out there to feed. He often comes out during the day.

Lures for chub in August

In addition to calculating the promising location of the chub, the supply of bait to the chub plays a role. The likelihood of a bite is higher if the chub does not have to chase the bait. The bait for the chub is thrown so that the attack of the chub is across or from the bottom up. Therefore, the accuracy of casting and direction of wiring will be an important factor. It is best to have a fairly clear and informative rod for chub, with which it will be much easier to accurately cast bait on the chub. I currently have two such spinning rods for chub in my arsenal. These are the DaikoFeatherweight 682 XUL-T with a test weight of 0.5-5 g for fishing with small baits and the Pontoon 21 Psychogun 732LSF with a test weight of 2.5-12 g for catching heavy chub with large lures.

The number and activity of chub does not mean that, having found a school, you will be caught in the distribution. To get a bite, you have to work hard. But when the chub is highly active, there will be much more contact with the bait, sometimes several strikes per retrieve. However, chub bait will play an important role in obtaining a large number of bites or their quality.

The best wobbler for chub in August

Choosing the best wobbler for chub is not an easy task, but let’s try to break it down into its components:
  • Of the sinking wobblers for chub, the best are- wobbler Saurus Batfee 30S and Prella 35S, wobbler Bassday Kangoku 27S, wobbler Salmo Hornet 20S;
  • the best floating wobblers for chub and suspenders- Pontoon 21 Alter Idem 36, 42, CrackJack 38, Hypnose 38 mm, FOP, Skagit Shallow Trank 36F and Cooky 30SP, Owner TWO 38SRF.
  • for catching larger chubs, it is more advisable to increase the bait, therefore the best surface wobblers for chub- Pontoon 21 Red Rag 36F-SSR, DUO Hacker Slaver Crank SSR 475, Megabass Baby Griffon Zero, Incubator RUSH 60, Jackall Bros, Chubby 38F.
  • The depth in a promising place for chub fishing can be significant; in this case, it is better to place the bait right under the nose of the chub standing at the bottom. The best deep-sea wobblers for chub- ZipBaits B-Switcher MDR MIDGET, wobbler Rigge Deep 56F, Duel Hardcore 50SP, Yo-ZuriArmsMicroShad 50F, wobbler Pontoon 21 RedRag 36F-DR and chub wobbler GagaGoon 55SS-MR.

When fishing for chub, spinning rods are usually used with a low lower test limit, since hunting for this fish almost always involves the use of light baits. The sensitivity of the rod also plays an important role: highly sensitive blank will allow you to both carry out the most effective placement of wobblers, spinners and other baits, and not miss a single, even the lightest, touch of a fish on them.

Also, when hunting for such a cautious fish as a chub (especially when fishing from the shore), it will not be superfluous to be able to perform long casts, why you should take a longer spinning rod.

Thus, the best rod for catching chub can be called the following: a fast action blank with a test of about 2 - 12 g, 2.4 m long for fishing from a boat and 2.7 m for shore fishing.

Coil

Since summer chub fishing primarily involves the use of small light baits (wobblers, flies, etc.), the best option would be small spinning reel(the most popular sizes are from 1000 to 2500).

If possible, you should choose "meat grinder", which Very good lays a thin braided line (reels with high-quality laying of thin lines are more expensive, but fishing with them will be as comfortable as possible).

Classic inertial reel or multiplier will not allow casting light chub baits.

Stories from our readers. Theme: fishing suit

Georgy V. Kaliningrad– “For me, fishing is half my life. For as long as I can remember – from the age of 5 with my father until now, I’ve always been fishing. And if finding a good spinning rod is not a problem now, then with fishing suits it’s a real hemorrhoid. I’ve probably tried about 10 of them . Including the popular version of the “slide” for fishing. There is nothing really good. It’s either cold or hot. There are few pockets, but the seams are torn. Half a year ago I ordered another one, a special fishing one. And lo and behold! I didn’t expect such good quality "I don't have any problems anymore - excellent fabric, it doesn't get wet, even in rain, even in hail, even in terrible frost. 11 pockets! I recommend it to everyone! See the link below, you'll like it!"

fishing line

The best line for catching chub will be thin and soft braid: its use will allow you to achieve maximum casting range for light baits and high sensitivity of the gear.

The specific thickness (and, accordingly, breaking load) of the cord is selected based on from the expected sizes of trophies and fishing conditions.

The thinner the braid, the better, but if there is a high probability of a large fish biting or there are many snags in the fishing areas, you will have to use a stronger line.

Leash

A metal leash is a very useful thing when fishing with spinning, but when hunting for a chub, put it categorically Not recommended: chub bites when fishing with a leash happen noticeably less often.

But putting a leash of thin and inconspicuous monofilament or fluorocarbon fishing line will not be superfluous: this can lead to an increase in catches.

Lure selection

Wobblers

Wobbler - perhaps the most catchy chub lure. They are especially effective when hunting for lobaty floating models, although it is worth having several sinking ones in the arsenal (their important advantage is the high casting range).

Usually in chub fishing, crank wobblers are used with a length no more than 5 cm.

Colors- natural (coloring under the fry), as well as dark matte.

HOW TO CHOOSE A FISHING SUIT?

  1. The main thing is the fabric and lining. To be warm in winter and not hot in summer. Well, if it is a polyester fabric with a through cellular structure, it removes moisture and allows the skin to breathe.
  2. presence of pockets. The more and the better they are located, the better.
  3. Shoulder straps and hood required. Great if the bottom is processed with a drawstring with a cord and latches
Very few suits have such properties. Even the popular version of the "slide" for fishing is not what you need. So far, the only option on the Russian market These are costumes from this online store. This is the quality standard. All requirements above are met. Look - especially now there is a promotion: a 50% discount on the first purchase and a flashlight as a gift!

Spinners

The most popular (especially among amateurs) bait for catching chub. However, it should be noted that this type of bait is significantly inferior to wobblers in terms of catchability.

They are usually used turntables numbers 00, 0 and 1, dark colors or silver.

Front sights

The chub, as mentioned above, is large insect lover. Fly fishing (especially in June and July, when there is a massive flight of various insects) will be very successful.

For such fishing, you can use a spinning rod with a sbirulino (bombard) rig.

jig lures

Jigging is used during those periods when the chub is kept mainly at the bottom, hunting for fry (usually this happens in August).

For such fishing, vibrating tails and twisters with a length of no more than 5 cm, mounted on a hook connected through a winding ring to a “eared” sinker.

When and under what conditions do chub bite in summer?

Chub is one of those fish that are very sensitive to weather conditions.

This fish is affected pressure and precipitation. If stable reduced level atmospheric pressure, which corresponds to gray cloudy days, affects the chub bite favorably.

With frequent changes atmospheric pressure, the chub stops feeding. The biting also stops when sharp jump pressure.

The wind also plays an important role in catching this species.

slight wind a stable direction helps to improve the chub bite. If the wind direction during the day changes often, you shouldn’t count on a good catch.

It should also be noted that chub activity in northern winds is usually low.

It is also worth saying about air and water temperature.

The chub becomes inactive at low water and air temperatures(which occur in spring and autumn), as well as when it is too high, at the height of the July heat.

Optimal water temperature for it happens, as a rule, in June and August.

As for time intervals, then it is worth saying that in the first half of June The chub remains active throughout the daylight hours.

In the second half of June and July The best time to hunt for chub with a spinning rod is usually early morning and evening (morning and evening dawns), as well as night. In August The chub feeds most actively in the morning and evening dawns.

3 ways to increase your fish catch

There are many ways to increase your fish catch, but the most effective ones are. Below, the site editors share with you the 3 most effective ways to increase your catch:

  1. . This is a pheromone-based additive that activates receptors in fish. ATTENTION! Rybnadzor wants to ban this bait!
  2. Any other baits with flavorings are less effective; it is better if they contain pheromones. But it’s most effective to use new 2016 — !
  3. Learning different fishing techniques. For example, it is written about spinning wires.

Where to fish?

The chub prefers small rivers with fast or moderate current, with a rich ichthyofauna and an abundance of vegetation.

It is impossible to find it at all in lakes, reservoirs and other standing bodies of water.

perspective points for chub fishing:

  • borders of grass thickets;
  • deep holes (especially with snags or a tree lying at the bottom);
  • boundary of direct and reverse flow;
  • channel edges;
  • sections of the river under steep banks, as well as under bushes and tree branches hanging over the water;
  • sandy and rocky shallows.

Postings

The best results when fishing for chub usually come from the simplest posting options:

  • when fishing with wobblers- this is a uniform wiring, it is also worth considering that floating wobblers can be released downstream to the required distance (for example, leading them in this way under the branches of bushes hanging over the water), and only then start wiring;
  • in fishing with spinners the main wiring will also be uniform;
  • when fishing with flies it is mainly used to float the bait with the flow, it should also be carried out or played with the fly in another way;
  • in jig fishing The main one will be stepped wiring.

Biting and hooking

Chub bites, especially if fishing is carried out in rapid waters, often occur very sharp and powerful. At the same time, the fish takes the bait, as a rule, not deep, but it often catches itself, although hooking still does not hurt.

If fishing is carried out at a depth in relatively calm water, the bite of a chub may be careful, and the spinning angler is not always able to notice it. It will help you not to miss a single touch of the fish on the bait. high-quality sensitive tackle. With any, even the slightest bite, you should immediately hook.

Fishing

Immediately after hooking, the chub, as a rule, makes several throws in different directions(usually downstream), trying to get free from the hook. These first throws are very powerful, but the chub is not enough for a long time: it gives up quite quickly. Its mouth is very strong, and its lips are fleshy, so the chub rarely breaks off.

When playing, you should try as hard as possible bring the fish to the surface faster and give her a breath of air: after that, the chub finally calms down and no longer offers any resistance.

Fishing from the shore and from the boat

Walking chub fishing from the shore
- the most difficult, but very interesting way of hunting for chub with a spinning rod. The angler should keep quiet and try to be as invisible to the fish as possible, as well as make the most accurate casts.

Wading fishing, as a rule, allows you to achieve much better results when hunting with a spinning chub than fishing from the bank.

The fish is almost not afraid of a spinner standing knee-deep in water, moreover, the use wading boots or waders allows you to move quite freely around the pond.

alloy fishing- the best option for rivers with medium or slow flow. Throwing a spinning rod from a boat, freely floating downstream, you can catch all the interesting points that would be inaccessible with any other fishing method.

Fishing in early, mid and late summer

June. IN first half In June, the chub still behaves like spring: it continues to spawn and bites throughout the daylight hours. In the second half of June The chub, as a rule, is already in full swing hunting for insects, spending most of the time in the upper layers of the water.

The best time to catch chub is during mass flights of insects, of which there are several in June in most regions. Since the chub feeds mainly on insects at this time, spinning baits that imitate beetles and flies will work best. The best time for fishing- early morning, as well as evening and night.

July. At the height of the July heat, most fish species stop feeding altogether. The chub tolerates high temperatures quite well, but on the hottest days He often stops responding to bait.

In July, there is usually a massive emergence of moths; the chub actively feeds on them and therefore may not feed at all during the day.

August. In August, the chub bite increases compared to July. The fish gradually switches from summer to autumn feeding mode: when the summer of insects ends, the chub sinks to the bottom, an important place in its diet is now occupied by a variety of fry, minnows, bleak and other small fish.

Chub in August starts to move to the points where he will spend the whole winter - in deep holes and riverbeds.

Hunting for chub with a spinning rod is perhaps the most interesting option for catching this beautiful and strong fish. And it’s not without reason that the chub is one of the favorite trophies of many advanced spinning anglers: even if its gastronomic qualities are not high, but catching chub in the summer with a spinning rod is incredibly sporting and exciting.
