Just recently, Trion Worlds began sending out invitations to the alpha test of the European version of ArcheAge. How does the alpha version differ from the Russian MBT? It’s not very good to compare two versions of the game, which are in different stages of testing, but our project also visited the alpha stage, so we can evaluate the work on the project now.

On December 17, 2013, Trion Worlds opened a new official website for the European version of ArcheAge and began accepting applications for the beta test. Then, in early January, the project moved into the "tests for family and friends" stage. That is why in the alpha version, which started on April 9, we were able to observe captured territories and level 50 characters. Already in January, a small gaming community began to form, whose representatives increasingly discovered the fascinating world of ArcheAge, studied crafting, dungeons, bosses and had fun in PvP.

Maybe the very calm with the European version that we observed for a long time was connected precisely with the study and translation of the game within the team that will support the European version? It is worth noting that Trion Worlds holds thematic streams every week, in which team representatives participate, and not “just famous streamers and casters.” One of the latest broadcasts featured game producer Victoria Voss and community manager Evan Berman. Judging by the news on the official website, the assistant producer is a certain Amary, who has been working in the MMO industry since 2005. Of course, these are all bright words, but I think European ArcheAge has a good team that is involved not only in their work, but also in the game as a whole.


To be honest, I didn’t expect to receive an invitation to the Euro version, but I received it the day after the start of alpha testing in an email with a link to download the client. It is worth noting that the invite comes only to the account, there are no keys and even invitation “tickets” for friends, as was the case in our version. So, what did we see when we logged in and played a little in EU ArcheAge?

"Brought back" Tears of Nui. They again received the status of game currency. For Tears of Nui you can buy recipes for a catamaran (trimaran), galleon, junk, bungalows, gliders, and you can also sell a horse for them (the same one that costs 10 gold coins in the Russian version). You can get Tears of Nui in several ways:

  • finding hidden places;
  • catching and opening chests while fishing;
  • found in treasures;
  • knocking out some bosses;
  • completing story and daily quests.
During my stream of the European version, I was often asked the question: “What about the drop?” The drop of things, akhium, and chests is an analogue of the drop that we saw on Korean servers before patch 1.0. Let me remind you that in patch 1.0 the drop system was completely redesigned. Now, when killed, monsters drop special items with a “question” icon, by opening which you can get either things (weapons and clothes), or akhium, or in-game money.


The Delphic stars in the European version remained in their original form. For them you can buy recipes for rare items, such as recipes for houses, merchant ships, tractors, machines, etc. Again, a complete analogue of the Korean version before patch 1.0. In addition, unlike our Russian version, Delphic stars do not participate in crafting (this means processing into Delphic dust and crafting cans in alchemy, as well as crafting some sets; when crafting a dolphinade, “ancient gold” is needed).

The alpha version presents us with the complete content of ArcheAge up to patch 1.0. We can fight with other players on battlefields (battlegrounds), although for now it’s in the five-on-five version (the one-on-one arena is already available on Korean servers). We can go farm the northern continent with six open locations and the Nachashgar dungeon. Let me remind you that after completing the dungeon, you get the opportunity to craft yourself a good weapon. The crafting station is located near the entrance to Nachashgar.

We can craft three 50's sets, everyone can get a racing car and a submarine. But still, we found small changes that were not inherent in the Korean version before 1.0. New potions have been added to alchemy, as well as (see screenshot):


What is this? Very reminiscent of the 60/40 trading system in patch 1.0, when 60% goes to the owner (crafter) and 40% to the seller. This screenshot was taken from a seller of cargo (packs) for gold coins. As for the Delphic stars, the “ancient golda” does not have this system. However, it is worth paying attention to the special signs $$. This system may not yet be fully operational in the alpha version, but we will try to test it.

What new potions have been added? The first potion allows the character to breathe underwater for 45 minutes. It will help you farm underwater bosses, but it is not so easy to get - alchemy must be level 20,000.


The following potion reduces damage taken by 18 units for exactly 1 hour. To craft, you need level 40,000 in the alchemy profession. It is worth paying attention to the number of work points that are needed to craft 5 pieces of this type of potion - 100. This is quite a lot.


And the last potion converts 10% of the damage received into health. “Tastier” than the previous one, and much more so. The required profession level is 40,000. The buff lasts on the character for 1 hour.


I could be wrong about potions. Perhaps they already existed before the introduction of 1.0 (due to the abundance of differences in different versions of the game, you begin to get confused in their diversity), but there was definitely no new trading system.

In the alpha version, we have access to capturing territories and sieges. Two territories have already been captured on the northern continent, but the sieges themselves have not yet taken place, but judging by the tab with information about the guild, the sieges content itself already exists and, perhaps, it has simply not been included yet due to the alpha test.

Work points are restored, as in the Russian version, 5 EP per 5 minutes. The maximum amount of OP is 5000. However, at the very beginning of the game, only 1000 OP is available to you as the maximum amount, and in order to get 5000, you need to constantly spend work points. Every 100 EP spent adds 10 EP to the maximum amount. I don’t know yet whether there will be changes to the CBT or MBT.


Those who played on Korean servers will probably remember the difficulties in finding the NPC to whom they need to hand in or from whom to take the quest. Either you won’t notice the “exclamation mark”, or its location on the mini-map will be incorrect. Korean developers proposed a “crutch” in the form of rising “glowing” lines above the heads of quest NPCs. The same innovation is present in the European version.


Links to the Wiki and the Contact us form are already available in the alpha client. True, when you click on Wiki, the forum of the European version opens; there is no full-fledged Wiki, like in the Korean version, yet. The Contact us link opens the Trion Worlds technical support page (in the Korean client, the client’s “native” technical support request form opens, i.e. a web page styled to match the client’s UI).




Of course, the abundance of content is a huge plus for the European version. But don’t forget the sad experience of the Russian version of ArcheAge with numerous bugs that players could use, bots, cheats with package substitution, radars and account hacks. It is still difficult to say what actions Trion Worlds will take and what actions have already been taken to protect the client, users and server. I’m very concerned about how the game will launch in the European region, what the final version of the game will be that Europeans and Americans will play, what the game store will be like, what the conditions for a premium account will be. For now, we know that certain founder packs will be sold, after purchasing which you will be able to gain access to the beta test of the game, “as well as some advantages and items in the release version of the game.” And there is no need to deny the fact that bugs and cheats similar to the Russian version are also present on European servers. The code is the same. Only access to servers is currently limited to invitations.

However, the fact that the content already exists and Trion Worlds, if it is gradually introduced into the game on OBT, you only need to press a few buttons and not wait for a patch from the developer, cannot be denied. The content is already installed in the alpha version on the servers and “wired” into game clients. But, I think, it would be more appropriate to introduce it in the form in which it was presented in the alpha test, because the game is already more than a year old and many players have managed to try it on Russian servers, not to mention the test servers in Korea. Although Europeans will have to study the game from the very beginning, just like us, in Europe and America there are those people who have been following the project for a long time and even play, overcoming the difficulties of translation from Korean. Although I cannot know the entire internal kitchen of Trion Worlds, so I cannot claim anything. Wait and see!

P.S.: I forgot to mention the scarecrows. Large and small scarecrows are two different types of buildings. You don't need to craft a small scarecrow into a larger one, but you can make a bush craft from a small one.

Each localizer introduces its own changes to the economic and combat systems. Not all players like the Mail.ru approach. Europe and America have their own localizer - Trion Worlds.

The version of the game from this company is slightly different, but the meaning remains the same. Among the features of the game on the European Archeage server, we can highlight the processing of the economic component. There are no things in the game store that affect the gameplay. A player can buy any item from another player or craft it himself.

It is also worth noting the feature of the premium account. On the Russian server, players with a subscription receive an additional chance for drops, and on the European Archeage server - a 10% discount on all purchases in the store.

Of course, everywhere has its pros and cons, but, according to players, the gameplay on the European Archage server is more balanced compared to the Russian one.

Trion Worlds began working on the localization of the Korean game ArcheAge in 2013, immediately opening pre-registration for the beta test. On July 17, closed beta testing began, to which many players who applied were invited.

Newcomers who managed to gain access during a special key distribution also joined the ranks of the lucky ones. All of them are already participating in large-scale battles with difficult bosses and with each other.
