The most effective models of spinners for catching pike perch. Rules for choosing a summer spinner for catching pike perch Spinner tube for pike perch in winter from Shcherbakov

The most favorite bait for catching pike perch in the winter season are spoons. The benefits of using them are great. First of all, this is a great attraction for predators, including very large ones, the ability to catch even in strong currents and at great depths.

In addition, lures are very reliable and easy to use, and specialized stores offer a huge number of options that meet all requirements and individual wishes. Properly selected tackle will last for many years without losing a single property.

For pike perch in the winter, it is better to use spinners that meet the following requirements:

  1. By shape should be elongated and fairly narrow.
  2. Optimal weight from 7 to 20 grams, if the fish is large, but it is allowed to use a spinner up to 30 grams.
  3. Perfect color– silver or gold, red is more suitable for depth.
  4. All edges are smooth, without sharp corners.
  5. The game is active.

With a double or triple hook (less often single), and if bait is not intended to be used on it, it is recommended to attach a small brush;

For pike perch, silver baits resemble bleak. It was noted that the overwhelming majority of bites fell on this color.

Many people notice that pike perch bite well on a combination of different colors, such as orange and brown, but this does not apply to every region.

Note: Using a single hook is extremely ineffective and is not capable of bringing a rich catch.

Do it yourself

The following materials are required for manufacturing:

  1. A metal sheet, best suited: copper, steel, brass. It is better to make it from a new piece of metal so that it is as shiny as possible. In isolated cases, silver is used for production; of course, such spoons play better in the water and attract pike perch, however, this is a very expensive option.
  2. Soldering acid.
  3. Marker(preferably black).
  4. Wooden plank.
  5. Burner.
  6. Tin.

Required tools:

  • file;
  • pliers;
  • large scissors;
  • sandpaper;
  • soldering iron;

Also, you need a hook; you can choose the size yourself, but No. 3–5 is considered optimal.

Manufacturing stages:

  1. Take a sheet of metal and using a marker, 2 identical oblong contours of the future spinner are drawn. The size is determined by the fisherman independently; if you plan to catch medium-sized pike perch, you can make it, for example, 7–8 centimeters long and 10–15 millimeters wide. A special black marker for metal is suitable for these purposes.
  2. Using scissors the resulting bases are cut out. It is better to draw and cut out one part first, and then the second using this stencil. Some fishermen believe that it is better if the parts are made of different materials, but in practice this type of bait has not been proven to increase bites.
  3. Take a file and carefully align all the edges.
  4. With acid The cut sheets are processed, heated and covered with a thin layer of tin.
  5. The hook is taken and with the help of pliers its ring is bitten off.
  6. Next on the burner you need to heat up parts of the hook, first its tip. You should be careful with fire; hold the hook with pliers.
  7. Lay out the hot parts of the hook onto a wooden board, make small folds and let cool.
  8. Solder to base future spinner hook and its ring. It is better to start with the ring; this requires pressing it as tightly as possible to the base. Carry out the same operation with the tip. Important point: the main thing is that the tip and the loop are symmetrical.
  9. Next you need to take a sheet of lead and cut out a small part from it (approximately 2/3 of the length of the spinner and on average one or two millimeters narrower). The edges are trimmed and the sheet is laid out on the prepared spoon. This element will give the bait the ability to roll from side to side in the water.
  10. Take the second part of the spoon, is placed on top and everything is carefully soldered in a circle. The most diligence needs to be done at the hook and loop areas.
  11. Using sandpaper the resulting lure is brought to a shine.

Fishing technique

There are increased requirements for fishing gear for pike perch in winter:

  1. It must be very durable.
  2. Tough.
  3. Capable of withstanding significant weight and resistance.
  4. Best rod length- this is 80 centimeters, but depending on the reservoir, you can use a length of 30 or 50 centimeters.

Pike-perch are strong fish, their bites are sharp, so there are situations when the rod accidentally ends up in the hole, so it is better that the handle is made of non-sinking material, which allows you to easily get the tackle.

To equip the fishing rod you will need:

  1. Strong fishing line, at least 0.2 millimeters thick (but not more than 0.4 mm). For catching pike perch, it is better to choose fishing lines depending on the behavior of the fish; if it is noticed that in a particular body of water the predator is extremely cautious, then it is better to opt for a thinner, but durable option.
  2. Coil. Many people prefer lighter and smaller models, but it is better to purchase a large inertial reel or multiplier. With this option, the tackle is heavier, but the line will be reeled in much faster, and fishing will be much more convenient.
  3. Nod. This detail is necessary if fishing is carried out at a relatively shallow depth or if a very light species is used as bait. A nod will allow you to feel any vibrations of the tackle and will not allow you to miss a bite. The universal nod size for catching pike perch in winter is 3–4 centimeters.

Fishing technique:

First, you need to decide on the fishing location.

Pike perch prefers to live in winter:

  • in areas of greatest depth;
  • in pits;
  • in the edges;
  • in riverbeds, especially at the end of winter;

You should do no less than 10 holes, and if not a single bite occurs within 20-30 minutes, move on to another and so on all day.

Note: There are times when there is no bite in a day, then it is recommended to try drilling holes in a different place next time.

The main thing is to find a flock, then bites are guaranteed (if the gear, rigging, etc. is chosen correctly).

After the tackle is prepared, the cast is made. It is better to lower the spoon calmly without sudden movements.

There are various wiring options:

  1. After the spoon has touched the bottom, you need to lift it about 30 centimeters up and fix it. Next, smoothly pull the spoon up 20 centimeters, wait 2 seconds and sharply lower it almost to the very bottom. After half a minute, repeat everything all over again.
  2. Suddenly raise the spoon and also sharply return it to its original state. It is recommended to do this wiring every 20-30 seconds.
  3. The spoon falls to the very bottom, after a few seconds it rises sharply by about 50 centimeters. Then you need to return it to its original position. This should be done gradually, first with a sharp movement, lower it by 10 centimeters, then pause for a few seconds and again lower by 10 centimeters, and so on, until the spoon lies on the bottom. After a pause, repeat everything all over again.

It is better to constantly change the wiring options, so the likelihood of attracting the attention of pike perch increases.

  1. Most active in pike perch during the period of first ice.
  2. In January and February It's better to fish at night.
  3. Spoons use different sizes and shapes.
  4. Buy bait only well-known companies and not the cheapest ones.
  5. After the purchase You should check the spinner; to do this, you can lower it into a bath of water.
  6. Making holes necessarily at a distance of 1 meter or more from each other.
  7. If in one of the holes When the bite starts, it is recommended to make subsequent casts here.
  8. If there's no bite, then try changing the spinner to a different type and changing the wiring.

Spoons, spinners, balancers, edible rubber - the market offers fishermen a huge number of artificial baits of different shapes, sizes, and prices. Although more recently, the catch depended solely on the observation and ingenuity of the fisherman. A tube spoon is a catchy bait that can be made at home if you have the material and tools. In addition to being effective in catching freshwater predators - pike perch, pike, perch, this homemade artificial bait will cost the fisherman disproportionately less than, for example, silicone twisters, wobblers and similar imports.

The ease of manufacturing tubular spinners allows you to “stamp” several dozen baits in a short period of time, which will give an advantage when catching a predator in snags, where such a thing as a hook with the subsequent loss of a homemade product is not uncommon. We’ll figure out what and how to make a spinner tube from, and also answer a number of questions related to this topic.

The invaluable fishing experience of their ancestors in making baits gave their contemporaries the opportunity to make the following types of tubular spinners at home:

  1. Hollow homemade products. Thanks to its slight lateral maneuverability, which makes it possible to make fast retrieves, a tubular spoon of this type is used when catching freshwater predators at depth (in the bottom layers) or in strong currents.

    Photo 1. Hollow spinner tube.

  2. Tubular lures with a sealed top. This type is not as popular as the previous one, since when retrieving the bait, it can deviate by 30 - 40 cm from the main course due to high drag. However, in the dead of winter, when the predator is almost in suspended animation, this homemade product will definitely stir it up when guiding it with its characteristic prowling game and the sound that the hollow back of the bait makes.

    Photo 2. Solid spinner.

  3. Loaded baits. They are used even less frequently - only when fishing conditions require long casting, as well as during strong gusts of wind. The distinctive features of such baits are that the body of the spoon itself is half or one third filled with lead.
  4. Noise homemade product. Another popular modification of tubular spinners. This type of spinner made of a copper tube or other material is distinguished by the fact that both ends are sealed with lead or solder. For a characteristic sound effect, before sealing the ends of the tube, a lead pellet is placed into the cavity. The rattling sound produced by the homemade bait when retrieving it provokes the predator to attack.
  5. Compound lures. From the point of view of the technological process, these are the most complex baits, usually consisting of 3 segments. However, the time spent on making composite spinners will pay off many times over. The homemade product is incredibly catchy, since in addition to the main game, when retrieving, the bait oscillates (bends, straightens) in the likeness of a real fry.

Important! Stepped wiring is the most suitable option for homemade tubes. Active twisting of the reel, alternating with pauses, makes the animation of the bait exactly like the behavior of a real fry that is injured or weakened. This greatly excites the predator.

Materials and tools for making a tube spoon

A self-made spinner tube for pike perch or any other freshwater predator will require the following materials:

  • aluminum or copper tubes;
  • lead rods or solder;
  • abrasive material (fine sandpaper for final polishing);
  • swivels, winding rings, tees, stabilizer fins.

The necessary tools will require a hacksaw for metal, a small vice, but always with soft pads on the lips so as not to damage the surface of the body of the future bait, a drill with a set of drills, and a file. In addition to these tools, you cannot do without a portable melting set for casting lead loads.

Dimensions of homemade tube baits

The question about the size of tubular spinners does not have a clear answer. It all depends directly on the fishing conditions. In particular, the season on which the behavior of freshwater predators depends, the depth of the horizon, the strength of the current, and whether fishing is carried out from the ice, shore or watercraft. The topography of the bottom of the reservoir is also taken into account. For example, a hollow aluminum tube lure for pike perch in winter will be 50 mm in length. External diameter – from 7 to 10 mm. Unloaded, but equipped with swivels, guide rings, and a tee, it will weigh about 7 grams. A similar bait, but made of a copper tube, twice as heavy - 14 grams. An oblique cut on both sides of the bait - the so-called angle of attack, can also have different meanings. As a rule, at one end of the bait it varies between 30° and 60°, on the opposite side this value remains around 20°.

Important! As practice shows, only on a pond, after testing a homemade game, can you establish accurate indicators regarding angles of attack. A filled bathtub at home will not help with this. After all, setting up a spinner is not loading the float.

The process of making a tubular spoon

The undeniable advantage of a pike spinner-tube for pike, pike-perch, and perch is its ease of manufacture when compared with the technological process for “spinning spoons” or “spinners.” The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

So, the tubular spoon - bait for pike perch, pike perch, and pike perch is ready for use. Loaded tubular spoons are made according to the same scheme. But in addition, we pour molten lead on one or both sides of the bait. When sealing both sides, you can put a pellet in the cavity for a sound effect. As soon as the surfaces to be treated have cooled, they must also be sanded. Next, we carry out the installation of the suspensions described above.

Important! In the dead of winter and periods when the activity of freshwater predators subsides, a spinner tube 50 mm long is used. And vice versa, if the fish activity is at its peak, we use tubular spoons with a length of 70 mm or more.

Composite spoon made from tubes

As mentioned above, a composite spoon made from tubes requires more scrupulous work during its manufacturing process. A fisherman from behind the “bump” would say that such a bait would never be made without a milling machine and special equipment. A naive foreigner, Russian ingenuity and perseverance works wonders! So, the step-by-step instructions look like this:

  1. As an example, we take the same workpiece, but 80 mm long.
  2. We make angles of attack with the same slope and cut the workpiece with a hacksaw into three segments (parts).
  3. On the middle segment, use a file to make “ears” (protrusions) on both sides. On the other two parts of the bait we repeat the operation, but only on the side that will be connected to the middle.
  4. In all the “ears” we drill holes with a diameter of 1 mm and pass rivets through them.

Jewelry work will be required in cutting out the protrusions, as well as riveting rivets. But you will get a catchy bait with an original game. Perhaps not the first time. Therefore, you should stock up on a large piece of tube.

Important! In the manufacture of composite spinners, various alloys can be used. For example, the middle is made of copper, and the front and back are made of aluminum. The sizes of the segments may also not match - the middle is larger, and the two side parts are smaller in length and diameter.

In custody…

A few words about the “decorations” for the bait, without which the story of how to make a tube spoon for perch or other predatory fish would not be complete. By “decorations” we mean various hanging elements in the tee area. It could be:

  • silicone worm or threads of the same material in the form of tentacles;
  • a bunch of ordinary red woolen threads;
  • Christmas tree decorations - rain;
  • ribs or eyes drawn on the body of the bait.

There are actually many options. Such “decorations” make the spoon even more catchy. In shallow water, the fish distinguishes color and can rush to attack something bright. In turn, at depth, a bait with “decoration” looks more voluminous. During the wiring process, the canopies create additional vibrations, which are instantly noticed by the predator. These same fluctuations can repeat the movements of benthic fauna, which can be part of the diet of freshwater predators. In the end, as practice has shown, pike perch, pike perch, and pike perch are always provoked to attack when they see something new and unusual.

The list of “tidbits” for pike perch definitely includes tubular spoons. Moreover, in some regions these baits are considered exclusively as a summer option, while in others they are excellently caught using “tubes” and from the ice using the vertical trolling method.

Types of tubular spinners

Self-made bait technology

The undoubted advantage of a tubular pike perch spoon is the ease of its manufacture. While “spinners” and “oscillators” are quite difficult to assemble, tubular baits can be stamped literally in a stream – and therefore, you can fish with them without fear for their safety. In snagged places, where pike perch like to stand, a supply of spinners will be very useful.

  • As a basis for the workpiece, we take a duralumin tube with a wall thickness of about 0.8 mm and a diameter of 8-10 mm.
  • We cut a 70 mm fragment from the workpiece.
  • Using a metal saw, cut one edge of the tube at an angle of about 70 degrees, and the second at 20-22 degrees. We clean the cut lines with a file and sandpaper, hitting all burrs and smoothing out sharp edges.
  • At the edges of the beveled parts we drill holes with a diameter of about 1.5 mm. We attach a swivel with a winding ring to the front edge (blunt cut). We mount a winding ring to the rear edge to attach the tee.
  • We equip the bait with a tee. Since we plan to catch pike perch, and its palate is very hard, it is advisable to use high-quality hooks with a perfectly sharp, hardened tip.

If we need a loaded bait or a spinner with a sealed end, then we do things a little differently:

  • We make the workpiece by cutting the edges at the angles indicated above.
  • Fill one or both holes with molten lead. If necessary, put grain inside.
  • After the metal hardens, we grind the end parts.
  • We drill holes in the places where the equipment is attached, after which we complete the spinner with a swivel and a winding ring.

We will choose the best spinning rod for twitching in the next article.

The most difficult option is to create a composite spoon:

  • We divide the tubular blank into three parts.
  • We cut out protrusions on the parts in which we drill holes.
  • We pass rivets through the holes and connect all three elements. Such a spinner will not only yaw when retrieved, but will also bend while moving.

This completes the production. Immediately before fishing, you can clean the surface of the spoon from oxides using fine sandpaper. But you shouldn’t polish it!

Fishing with a tubular spoon

For fishing with such bait to be successful, you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  • For low-active fish, you can use spoons with a length of 50 mm or more. During the feeding season, when the pike perch is active, we hook a lure from 90 to 110 cm onto a leash. This way we will cut off the small things and lure a larger specimen.
  • When fishing in the current, you should opt for hollow tubes. In calm water, models with a sealed end work much better.
  • When retrieving this bait, it is worth alternating pauses with periods of active reeling. At the same time, the spinner imitates the behavior of a wounded or weakened fish - it either freezes near the bottom at a slight angle, or begins to scour from side to side, provoking a bite.
  • If there are a large number of derailments, you can replace the tee with a model with wider hooks and a shorter fore-end. As a rule, after this the pike perch is detected much more reliably.

A pike perch spoon from a tube is one of those baits that do not lose their effectiveness over time. And even if its appearance is inferior to branded “spinners” and expensive wobblers, the pike perch grabs it no worse than twenty, thirty and fifty years ago. The main thing is not to mess around when making it and keep an eye on the sharpness of the hooks.

Today you can buy almost everything in fishing stores. But sometimes fishermen have requests that even the modern fishing industry cannot provide.

This may be due to specific fishing conditions or increased interest of the predator in a certain type of bait in a particular body of water, as well as the high cost of factory products. Then skillful hands come to the rescue. One of the most catchy homemade baits is a do-it-yourself pike perch spinner made from a tube. Otherwise known as tube spinners "slices".

Advantages

  • ease of manufacture;
  • possibility of use in summer and winter;
  • good aerodynamic characteristics when fishing with a spinning rod;
  • catchability;
  • cheapness.

Types of tubular spinners

  1. Hollow spinner. Made from a piece of metal tube.
  2. Spinner with a sealed top. The upper end of the spinner is sealed with lead. Such a spinner has a different game, more sweeping or yawing, since when retrieved its front end resists the aquatic environment. In addition, the back hollow part of the spoon emits acoustic vibrations of a certain frequency that attract pike perch.
  3. Loaded spinner. The front part of the spoon is filled with lead by a third or half. Such baits are used if a significant casting distance is required.
  4. Noise spinner. One or more lead pellets or steel balls are placed into the cavity of the spoon, and the spoon itself is sealed at both ends.
  5. Composite spinner. Made from three pieces of tube. Has a very active game and has good catchability.

Manufacturing

To make a tube spinner for pike perch at home, the craftsman will need:

Tools:

  • hacksaw for metal;
  • file;
  • vice;
  • sandpaper;
  • drill with thin drill bits.

Materials and accessories

The material used is aluminum or copper tubes of the required diameter. It should be remembered that the specific gravity of copper is almost twice as high as that of aluminum, and be guided by this when making bait.

Lead is necessary in the manufacture of the corresponding types of spinners.

Winding rings are used to attach hooks to the lure.

Treble hooks are a necessary element of the spinner equipment.

Process

Making a composite spoon-tube

The manufacturing process is more complex. It consists of the following steps:

  1. Cut out a piece of tube 80 mm long and make cuts at its ends in the same way as when making a regular tubular spoon.
  2. Cut the workpiece into three parts, maintaining the same angles as on the initial workpiece.
  3. They make special “ears” - protrusions designed to connect the segments to each other. This is a very painstaking job and is done with a file.
  4. Drill holes at the front and rear ends of the tube and in each eye.
  5. Connect the three parts of the bait using rivets.
  6. The lure is equipped with rings and tees.

Segment sizes can vary: The decision is up to the master. You can also use various metals in the manufacture of bait components.

Additional features

What remains is tuning the tube spinner. Most often, anglers use tee equipment artificial fly. The latter serves to stabilize the play of the spinner during retrieval and is an additional element that attracts predators. Sometimes they use a tee instead single hook equipped with a twister. When fishing in winter, it is highly advisable to put a tee on the forend 2-3 multi-colored cambrics or use a hook with a three-color drop.

Painting

In most cases, painting the spinner is not required. In summer, pike perch can be caught well on baits that have a silver, reddish copper or yellow brass color. More often you have to paint a tube spoon when ice fishing. This is understandable: playing with bait in one place allows the pike perch to examine the spoon and its color can play a decisive role.

They paint the lure in the same way as any other homemade bait: first they coat it with a primer, then apply waterproof paint.

Expert opinion

Knipovich Nikolai Mikhailovich

Zoologist, hydrobiologist. I am interested in fishing at a professional level.

Attention! When making spinners that use lead, safety regulations must be followed, since its fumes are poisonous. Lead must be melted outdoors, either under a hood, or at least wearing a respirator.

Hex tube

In addition to the tube spinners described above, which have a circular cross-section in cross-section, there are hexagonal baits. Finding a hexagonal tube is not so easy, but it's worth the effort. Such baits are considered the most catchy in winter fishing.

To make a spinner, a hexagonal tube made of copper, brass, or stainless steel is used. The front cut is made at an angle of 60 degrees, the back - 30 degrees. The length of the spinner is usually 55-65 mm, thickness 10-13 mm. Sometimes it is achieved that one or two edges differ in color from the entire bait. To do this, the necessary edges must be cleaned or even polished.

The freeze-up period is the right time to test the fisherman's strength of character, determination and resourcefulness. During this season, there are periods of intense biting and times of complete lack of biting, when it is the experience and ingenuity of the fisherman that allows them to get a trophy. Catching pike perch in winter with a spoon is one of the most entertaining types of hunting for a predator, requiring a thorough knowledge of the habits and food preferences of the fish.

Based on these observations, pike perch fishing enthusiasts have developed directions for the production of specialized spinners that successfully allow them to catch fanged fish. Spoons for pike perch, unlike similar baits for other types of fish, are distinguished by their narrowed shapes and elongated body, which resembles a chased small fish. It is this kind of fish, and often it is bleak or roach, that is the basis of the predator’s diet. Based on the shape of the spoon, it is used for catching pike perch in deep and shallow waters, in snags and bottoms cluttered with dead wood, in places with strong currents.

Due to the requirements for the similarity of the bait with live fish and the specifics of the fishing sites, the pike perch spoon looks like an elongated metal body with a periodicity of geometric shapes of smooth and strict lines, with a ratio of length to width proportions of at least one to five. Products are most often painted silver or yellow-golden. The combination of this color scheme on both sides of the catching tool is also considered promising. Powerful double or triple hooks with a sharp point. With a length of 7–12 cm, the weight of the spinners varies from 9 to 20 grams.

Top best winter lures for pike perch

In presenting the rating of spinners for fanged fishing, we will move away from the topic of the best tool manufacturer, focusing directly on the successful forms of the accessory, to which the fish respond more actively. The 10 best options for catchy lures for pike perch when fishing with lures from ice will help anglers assemble the optimal set of baits for any fishing conditions.

A classic of winter pike perch hunting is the form of a spinner, nicknamed in the fishing community “clove”. The type of thin base, with an oval body expanding downwards, has a simple trajectories, but the most attractive game for pike perch. The prevalence in sales and ease of animation management make these types of spinners the leaders of the rating.

The second most popular species form among the best spinners for pike perch in winter, without a doubt, is the Vlasov spinner in the shape of a ski. A tool specially designed for pike perch fishing, by bending the body at a certain angle, makes its play more fractional and high-frequency, which attracts fish with sound waves and vibration from long distances.

The third line is behind the diamond shapes. A diamond elongated horizontally, due to the location of the center of gravity, makes the bait play more stable and uniform, which helps the spinner. When fishing in a school of pike perch, only the uniformity of the game brings stable results in bites, and there is no particular need to adjust the equipment for such lures.

Four is deserved for the triangular versions of the accessory. Expressive play with small amplitudes of pulls positions such spinners as shallow-water tools, which is important when searching for fangs during periods of deep winter and last ice, when the fish tries to stay on shallow riffles.

Rounding out the top five is the appearance of spinners made from cut tubes. This type of bait does not differ in any special animation delights, but has an important quality, expressed in the creation of strong acoustic vibrations that effectively collect fish at the fishing point. It is rational to use these forms during periods without biting, motivating the predator to be active not with visual effects, but with the sound component.

We will place lures for pike perch in the shape of an oblong spoon with fluctuating playing qualities on the sixth line. These representatives of pike perch baits are applicable in shallow areas of reservoirs with moderate currents. Such spinners are quite light and can additionally be animated by the force of the water flow. They are not always catchy due to the unclear amplitude of the game. But if the fanged one likes instability on this day, then you certainly won’t find a better option for fishing. Animation requires a certain technique of flashing, which is sometimes clearly not beneficial for a beginner.

The seventh on the list of preferred shapes will be the inverse trihedron. This version is a clear leader in terms of game stability. Spinners do not have horizontal movements and work purely vertically, which is not entirely acceptable when fish activity is low. Small fishing areas are another disadvantage of this type. But if a hole is drilled in a pike perch anchorage, then the disadvantages instantly turn into advantages and make the effectiveness of using a reverse trihedron incredible.

For vertical trolling of pike perch at great depths, a sealed tube is used, which becomes the eighth rating number on the list. The clarity of the game and the significant mass of the bait allows you to detect yourself at depths through sound and vibration waves.

Nine for a spinner cut or a type of bait similar to a castmaster. Its play is similar to how summer oscillating spoons are animated, but it is more frequent during the fall due to the large mass of the body. Excess mass in relation to size allows you to fish at significant depths, and unbalanced play increases the chance of attracting fish with chaotic movements.

Rounding out the top ten is the shoe-shaped bait. A tool of this type has a fast, sweeping action, which makes the bait universal and often lures pike. Pike perch are not always attracted to the brightness of the game, and the technique of such trolling requires a special approach to the execution of postings. Lures of similar shapes are used in shallow water.

By selecting by type, based on the performance characteristics of a particular form of bait, the fisherman will be ready to implement any strategy for pike perch hunting and will definitely not be left without a trophy.

How to catch pike perch in winter using spoons

The technique for catching winter pike perch is based on two main methods of presenting bait.

Important! The difference is that in one case the fisherman periodically hits the bottom of the reservoir with a fishing shell. In the second case, only when lowering the bait is it allowed to touch the bottom, and subsequently the animation is done purely in the water column.

Let's look at these techniques in the fisherman's action algorithms in more detail.

First method

The bait for pike perch is lowered to the bottom and subsequently pulled up to a height of 40–50 cm from its horizon. Two or three short, fifteen to twenty centimeter tosses are performed. This manipulation is followed by a two- or three-second pause, and the product is sharply placed on the ground, striking it briefly a couple of times, making a knock. Such monotonous cycles are repeated ten to fifteen times with the same frequency. If there are no bites, change the fishing spot.

Second method

As in the first option, a winter lure for pike perch is lowered to the bottom and the height at which the retrieve will be measured is measured. Next, the catching projectile is raised from the bottom by about twenty centimeters and the animation begins, based on the playing characteristics of the spinner used. The game cycle ends after two or three tosses no higher than a couple of tens of centimeters. After the active phase, pause for five seconds and repeat all of the above steps, except for lowering the ice fishing spoon to the bottom.

The technique described above for catching pike perch with a spoon differs in the size of the time intervals and the sharpness of the game depending on the activity of the fish.

Important! When the pike perch is active, pauses are reduced and throws are made more aggressive. Passive fish require less harsh play and longer pauses. Knock fishing is preferable for active fish. The sound of hitting the bottom gathers a school of pike perch at the fishing point. If the pike perch is passive, the knock, on the contrary, alerts the predator and prevents it from biting.

Summer lures for pike perch

In summer, it is preferable to catch pike perch using spinning rods and vertical lures from a boat. For spinning fishing, small oscillating spinners are used, with an active, not sweeping, high-frequency action. As a rule, a five to seven centimeter long body of the product, weighing nine to fifteen grams, is exactly what the zander prefers. Pinwheels are not so loved by the fanged ones. An exception may be models designed for catching perch with a teardrop-shaped, or willow leaf-shaped, petal and the second size number according to the Meps classification. Their catchability is significantly lower than spoons and accessories for vertical trolling.

As for vertical fishing, this is the ideal and most productive way of hunting pike perch in the fall. This method is based on the principle of universal use of winter lures for pike perch. For vertical trolling in open water, the heaviest fishing shells are preferable. Such representatives better resist the flow on long cords and quickly reach the required levels of the water horizon. In terms of colors, silver and yellow-golden remain in favor, which confirms the stability of fanged preferences.

Do it yourself

For winter fishing, you can make your own spinners by analogy with factory types of products. The easiest way to do this work is to use steel, brass and copper tubes, as well as wire rod made from the same materials. From tubes and rods, cutting their edges at a certain angle, types of spinners with different playing characteristics and weight parameters are obtained. A workpiece can be cut out of metal plates 4–5 mm thick and, using mechanical processing by turning, the required shape of the product can be achieved.

By varying the bends of the lower end of the product, the lure can be given the individuality of the game according to your own preference. An excellent option for a catching projectile would be a bimetallic spoon. It is made from two plates of different materials by soldering or peening. Differences in the specific gravity of metals contribute to the unusual shift of the center of gravity and give the accessory a unique play. Additional equipment for homemade products are tees and winding rings.
