Where are the sandy ones in Greece? The best sandy beaches in Greece: Crete, Santorini, Rhodes, Athens, Halkidiki

Millions of tourists are convinced every year that Greece has everything. And while some are more attracted by the historical heritage, others come here for the beaches. The Greek coast is a multi-kilometer series of sandy and pebble, crowded and secluded beaches, among which it is not difficult to find your favorite place to relax.

The best sandy beaches in Greece

In terms of the number of sandy beaches, no country in Europe can compete with Greece. Many of them were recognized as the best not only within the country, but also outside Greece - they top the world rankings.

It has long been firmly established in the best ratings Elafonisi beach(Crete). For its sake, tourists spend several hours on the road to end up at a strip of immaculately clean white and pink sand. Elafonisi has a feeling of exotic landscapes. The sea here is shallow - you can walk several kilometers, but still not reach more or less “serious” depth. The area around the beach has been declared a protected area, so there are no hotels on the coast - several apartments operate nearby. But very close there is parking, sun loungers and a couple of beach bars.

Tourists who want to combine partying and a beach holiday have heard about the popular Paradise Beach, located on the island of Mykonos. The landscapes here are truly heavenly: soft sand, clean warm water, the azure color of the sea. It’s not for nothing that hippies loved Paradise Beach back in the 60s. Today, life here is in full swing: parties, entertainment programs, and music are played 24 hours a day without stopping. In a word, there is a feeling of complete freedom.

Mostly Paradise Beach is chosen by young people, but people of different ages consider it their duty to visit here, since they have come to Mykonos. Only for tourists with children this beach will not be the best option. Demand creates supply, so a large number of hotels and apartments are concentrated near the beach, and there is a well-organized campsite. On the beach itself there are restaurants, sun loungers, bars, a diving center, and all kinds of water activities are offered.

Myrtos Beach(Kefalonia) - the most photographed sandy beach in Greece. Its natural beauty cannot but delight, which is why views of Myrtos have long been adorned in advertising brochures. The beach is located on the northern coast of Kefalonia, near the village of Assos. Arriving here, tourists first admire the view from the cliff and then begin their descent. The beach is surrounded by green hills and is partially organized - there are sun loungers. But half of Myrtos is not equipped and is ideal for a secluded holiday. There is a bar on the coast where you can buy drinks and food.

The best beaches in mainland Greece

A beach holiday on mainland Greece is the perfect choice for those who want to combine days at the beach with exploring the country's most iconic sights. On the mainland there are decent beaches in every area. The leader in their number is Chalkidiki. On the second finger of this peninsula, Sithonia, it is worth relaxing Vourvourou beach. This idyllic place captivates with beauty. Small islands are scattered in the bay, and the shore forms a quiet, shallow bay. Vourvourou is surrounded by untouched lush forests and is suitable for families with children. There are fish taverns and bars nearby.

Luxurious sandy Sani resort beaches(Chalkidiki). This coastline is a 7-kilometer line with clear, shallow sea. Sani Beach is surrounded by lush greenery and Mount Olympus is visible opposite. Sani is one of the most comfortable holiday destinations in Greece with developed infrastructure. Here you can have lunch at a coastal fish tavern, have a snack at the bar, rent a sun lounger, use the shower and changing cabins. There is animation for children.

Located 40 km from Athens Lagonissi beach. It has earned its popularity thanks to its beautiful landscapes and clear water. The sandy coastline has sun loungers and taverns. Moreover, you can order dishes directly to your sun lounger. Tourists are provided with a wide range of services: there is a spa center, an indoor swimming pool, shops, water activities, restaurants with sea views. The only drawback of the beach is the inflated prices for services.

The best beaches on the Greek islands

Island Greece provides tourists with a huge selection of beaches. Some are nestled in calm green bays, others stretch along the coast. All of them are unique, but some can safely be called “the very best.”

Porto Katsiki- a beach that has become a decoration of the southwestern part of the island of Lefkada. Its emerald sea contrasts with high cliffs covered in greenery. For the purity of the water and incredible beauty, Porto Katsiki is regularly included in world rankings. But the best recognition is popular recognition. Tourists visit it during the summer and say that the beach appears in all its glory at dawn or before sunset. There is a parking lot and several bars above the bay. On the beach you can rent a sun lounger or go to the deserted part of Porto Katsiki.

On the island of Naxos one of the best is considered Agios Prokopios beach. It is located just 5 km south of Naxos town. The long coastline, covered with soft golden sand, stretches for 1.5 km and is washed by the azure sea. Despite its popularity, Agios Prokopios is not overcrowded with tourists due to its impressive size. On the shore there is everything for relaxation: taverns, apartments, cafes, diving, kitesurfing and windsurfing centers.

Faliraki(Rhodes) is one of the most famous beaches of island Greece. It stretches for 4 km and has become a favorite vacation spot for young people. Crowded bars in high season do not turn off the music until late in the evening, and the most active are offered water activities. Despite the fact that in summer there is nowhere for apples to fall, sandy Faliraki is chosen by families with children. The water here is shallow and safe, waves are rare, and the entrance to the sea is gentle. The beach infrastructure allows you to stay on Faliraki all day. Here you can relax in the bar, have lunch in a tavern on the coast and take diving lessons. And since the resort of the same name is located on the beach, tourists are provided with a huge selection of hotels - from exclusive to budget.

All beaches in Greece belong to the state and are publicly accessible. The coasts are mostly landscaped and have a developed tourist infrastructure. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent (average price is 8 EUR per day); hotels located near the beaches can provide this equipment for free.

On the Greek Mediterranean coast, sandy beaches with golden or white sand predominate; pebble beaches are rare and can be lined with wooden paths to make it convenient for vacationers to walk. On the mainland and large islands, the beaches are more crowded and noisy. Truly paradises of the coast and the most beautiful beaches of Greece are found in small bays near the island resorts; getting to them can be difficult.

Greece's sandy beaches are some of the best in the world: about 400 of them are awarded the Blue Flag, a prestigious international award requiring compliance with water quality, environmental and safety standards.

The best sandy beaches in Greece

Magnificent sandy beaches can be found on different parts of the coast: on the territory of popular resorts on the mainland and islands, in public and remote bays.

In Rhodes, the best beach for youth recreation is Faliraki, which stretches along the coast for more than 4 km. The sand here is fine and golden in color. The territory is divided into several areas, including a small nudist beach.

Not far from Faliraki is the cozy paradise beach of Anthony Quinn, which gained worldwide fame and name thanks to the film “Zorba the Greek” filmed here with the participation of Anthony Quinn. The bay is popular with divers; the shore can be crowded during the high season.

Despite its inaccessibility, the beach of Balos Bay in Crete constantly attracts tourists. The uniqueness of the bay lies in its location: in this place the waters of three seas - the Ionian, Aegean and Libyan - connect. The result is extraordinary seascapes: the shades of the water in the bay constantly change throughout the day.

Elafonisi in the western part of the island of Crete occupies a special place among sandy beaches: the lagoon and beach are famous for their pink shell sand.

In search of unusual beaches, you can drive along the resort coast of Santorini. Two of the most notable spots are Kamari Beach, with its grey-black volcanic sand, and the cliff-lined Red Beach.

On the Greek islands, everyone can find their own paradise on earth. Do you doubt it? Then meet the best beaches in Greece!

The best beaches in Greece!

1. Balos (Crete)

A delightful meeting place of three seas. That's what you can call it Balos– one of the best beaches in Greece. It is located in a cozy bay surrounded by mountains on the island of Crete. Here you can count many different shades of the sea, and the temperature in different parts of the beach may differ, which is not surprising for the place where the waters of the Aegean, Ionian and Libyan seas merge.

Balos Beach is wild, there is no infrastructure as such, with the exception of a small number of sun loungers that have recently appeared. You won’t be able to buy water or food here; you need to take everything with you.

The place is a little difficult to reach. There are two options to get to the bay: by car or with a tour. By car you will have to drive along a steep serpentine road, but you will be able to look down on the coast and take in all its splendor at once. In addition, if you organize such a trip before the start of the tourist season or after it, you can get the maximum range of sensations, not blurred by the bustle. A trip with an excursion often involves not only Balos Bay, but also other interesting places.

2. Elafonisi (Crete)

Elafonisi– another one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece with pink sand and crystal clear sea. This color is given to the coast by various impurities in the sand (shells, seashells and corals, broken into small particles). You can see all the bizarre shades not only on land, but also under clear water far from the shore.

Located on the island of Crete (near Balos). On Elfonisi beach, vacationers can enjoy safe swimming and average amenities in the area. The entry into the sea is gentle and there are no big waves even in a storm, so this is a great place to relax in Greece with kids.

You can get to the coast by passing the serpentine road by car, with an excursion tour or by bus. The latter type of transport is only available during the season.

3. Manganari (Ios)

Beautiful beach Manganari located on the coast of the Greek island of Ios, washed by the waters of the Aegean Sea. It is well protected from winds, which guarantees the absence of high waves. Tourists are attracted here by golden sands, clear water and fairly good amenities.

On the vast beach area you can find everything you need from sun loungers, beach bars and taverns to active entertainment. Here you can practice diving, windsurfing and other water sports.

Getting to Mangari is quite easy either by your own car or by one of the various types of public transport.

The beach is also notable for the fact that iconic scenes from Luc Besson’s film “Abyss Blue” were filmed there.

4. Paradise (Mykonos Island)

Beach Paradise- a crescent-shaped golden strip of sand on the island of Mykonos in Greece. Its name translates as “paradise”, but it is a heavenly place only for young people and is not at all suitable for family holidays.

For young people, it really lives up to its name. The only negative is that the prices are higher than at other resorts in Greece, although this does not bother many people. At night, the coast turns into an open-air disco. There is an expensive nightclub here. During the day, you can rent a sun lounger and have some real relaxation, or, conversely, organize an active holiday and go diving (the beach has its own diving center).

You can get there very quickly from Mykonos (only 20 minutes by public transport, and even faster by private car).

5. Red Beach (Santorini Island)

Red Beach- the most unique and very beautiful beach in Greece, and the island of Santorini in particular. The coast with red pebbles is surrounded by the same red rocks. They surround it from all sides, leaving only access to the crystal clear sea.

The entire small but very cozy area of the beach is dotted with sun loungers, which fill up with people very quickly. There are cafes carved right into the rock where you can have a snack.

You can get there both by land and by sea. In the first case, by private car, which you will have to leave about a fifteen-minute walk from the beach and walk the rest of the way. The second option is by boat from Akkrotiri directly below the shore.

6. Vroulidia (Chios Island)

Beach Vrulidia- the heritage of the island of Chios, also belongs to the most beautiful and best beaches in Greece on the Aegean coast. It is located in a cozy bay with an emerald-colored sea. The bay is surrounded by a picturesque rocky cliff that protects it from the winds.

The beach is sparsely populated due to its inaccessibility, which makes it even more attractive. The underwater world of the Aegean Sea is diverse and picturesque, so diving is held in high esteem here. Even regular snorkeling is a lot of fun.

You can have a snack in one of the cafes located on the top of the cliff. At the same time, you can enjoy amazing views of the bay.

7. Egremni (Lefkada Island)

Beach Egremni- a long and wide strip of snow-white sand in Greece on the island of Lefkada, contrasting with the bright blue water of the Ionian Sea. It is protected by high rocks. The shore is a mixture of small and medium pebbles. The depth begins almost at the very shore.

The beach is difficult to access and remote, so the infrastructure is not well developed. But on the beach you can rent a sun lounger or order drinks at the bar. The contingent of vacationers here is different, however, you can often meet nudists.

You can get here by passing a series of steps leading from the parking lot. There are 347 of them.

8. Myrtos (Kefalonia Island)

Myrtos– the most beautiful beach on the island of Kefalonia. It has the shape of a crescent and is surrounded by picturesque rocks. The Ionian Sea here is azure blue, but it is not always calm. High waves are possible, and the entry into the sea abruptly turns into depth, so people with children rarely relax here and with extreme caution.

The beach is averagely equipped. On its territory you can rent a sun lounger and an umbrella, there is a shower and toilet. In the south of the beach there are several caves that harmoniously fit into the overall paradise landscape.

You can get to Myrtos along a winding road from a small village. Along the way there are observation platforms with amazing views.

9. Lalaria (Skiathos Island)

Majestic rocks with caves, white and gray rounded pebbles, clear, like a tear, water of the Ionian Sea - all this is harmoniously combined on this beautiful beach of Greece, on the island of Skiathos. An inaccessible rock surrounds it so that it can only be reached by sea. At the very edge, nature has carved an arch, the passage through which has already created many legends. There are many caves scattered near the beach, some of which are famous tourist sites.

You won’t find the usual tourist infrastructure on the coast. Lalaria– a piece of incredibly beautiful wild nature in its original state. Inaccessibility, lack of sun loungers, umbrellas and other beach paraphernalia relieve the beach of a large flow of tourists. This allows you to fully enjoy the tranquility and natural grace of Lalaria.

10. Sleigh (Chalkidiki)

The list of “best beaches in Greece” includes Sled, located on the Halkidiki peninsula. The long sandy coastline is washed by the warm waters of the Aegean Sea. On the other side it is surrounded by an ecological reserve. A riot of greenery, snow-white sand and azure sea - an amazing landscape typical of Sani beach.

Of course, the amenities of the coastal strip are at the highest level. There are umbrellas, sun loungers, bars, clubs and restaurants. There are also plenty of opportunities for lovers of active recreation. You can go diving and other water activities. The hotel complex, of which the coast is a part, provides a wide range of services.

11. Emblisi (Kefalonia Island)

Surrounded by rocks and pine trees, washed by azure sea water, a beautiful beach Emblisi on the Greek island of Kefalonia is the ideal place for true relaxation. The water is like glass, allowing you to see the small white pebbles at the bottom in the finest detail. At the same time, the coast is sandy, and magnificent pine trees allow you to hide in the shade from the sun's rays.

There are not many people on Emblisi and it cannot boast of a developed infrastructure. But there is an opportunity to rent a sun lounger and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

You can get to the beach from the village of Fiskardo in just a few minutes by car or on foot.

12. Porto Katsiki (Lefkada Island)

Porto Katsiki- an incredibly beautiful beach in Greece, on the island of Lefkada. It is the hallmark of the island. The coast is strewn with large pebbles. A massive rock, covered with a grassy cap, proudly rises above it. If you add here the warm sea with bright blue water, it’s immediately clear why this place is so in demand. Porto Katsiki is almost always crowded, so it’s better to arrive in advance.

There are no sun loungers, umbrellas or other infrastructure elements. The beach is wild and you need to take everything you need with you.

You can get to Porto Katsiki along the road along the western coast of Lefkada. Another option is a special ferry from Nidri or Vasilki.

13. Katisma (Lefkada island)

Amazing beach Katisma, 7 kilometers long - another asset of the island of Lefkada. White sand, turquoise sea and chalk cliffs of Katisma Beach are every tourist’s dream. The water is very clean, but swimming here is not always safe, especially with children, as there are high waves.

The area is beautifully landscaped. There are sun loungers, umbrellas, bars, cafes, showers and toilets. In addition, Katisma Beach will be appreciated by lovers of water and underwater sports. For an active holiday, this coast is an ideal solution. There are a lot of people, but due to the long length of the beach strip it is almost unnoticeable.

14. Navagio (Zakynthos Island)

Navagio- the best beach in Greece for many tourists! This is a small piece of snow-white sand, carefully hidden in a cozy bay of the island of Zakynthos. It is surrounded by cliffs and blue sea. It is better to visit here before lunch, as in the afternoon the sun disappears behind the green caps of the rocks.

Navagio beach is wild and undeveloped. It has its own highlight - a shipwrecked ship. Right in the middle of the beach lies a rusty smugglers' ship, which they sank while escaping from the authorities in boats. Now this spectacle is a great magnet for tourists.

Navagio Beach, securely guarded by rocks, can only be reached by water. This path runs along the blue caves. It is as captivating and impressive as the bay itself.

What can we say in conclusion: when going on vacation to Greece, tourists will find as many beautiful beaches as not every country can offer!
