What is prohibited and what is allowed to be taken into the cabin? How to carry luggage in Aeroflot: the latest rules What you can take in hand luggage.

So, an exciting journey awaits you. Tickets have already been purchased, thoughts are melting with anticipation of novelty and pleasant pleasures. For thoughts to become reality, you just need to properly prepare for the trip. You need to start by packing the things you will need during the trip.

When packing your suitcase, remember that on the way back it is always heavier from purchases and gifts. We remind you that everything you take on the road must be divided into two unequal parts:
- hand luggage
– checked luggage

One will be with you in the cabin and is called hand luggage (or cabin baggage, if it will be stored in a special cabinet in the cabin if you wish). You are responsible for its safety yourself.

And the second one will fly with you, but in the luggage compartment of the plane and is called checked baggage. The airline is responsible for the safety of this baggage.

You need to keep in mind that the rules for transporting baggage on an airplane are different for hand luggage and checked baggage. Those. What you can take with you under the guise of checked baggage may be prohibited for transportation in the aircraft cabin. So below are the basic rules for transporting luggage.

HAND BAGGAGE – hand luggage on an airplane can weigh from 5 to 18 kilograms (depending on the requirements of the carrier’s airline, route, fare, ticket). As a rule, hand luggage consists of:

All necessary documents (passports, valuable business papers, credit cards, vouchers, insurance)
-valuable and fragile things (video cameras, laptops, jewelry, glasses, etc.)
- vital medications, baby food
-and the rest depends on your tastes and personal life.

Approximate hand luggage size
For the safety and comfort of passengers, hand luggage should not exceed the permitted dimensions so that it can be stowed under the seat of the aircraft seat. Usually these sizes are 55x40x20 cm.

There are exceptions, for example, the Air Astana company allows business class passengers to carry hand luggage weighing up to 18 kilograms in the aircraft cabin. And at the Lufthansa airline, first and business class passengers are allowed to take two pieces of hand luggage, and for economy class passengers - one. The permissible dimensions of one piece of hand luggage have been increased to 55x40x23, and the weight should not exceed 23 kilograms.

The main thing that should not be forgotten is that any items that pose a danger to others, their simulators and models (these are radioactive, toxic substances, weapons, piercing, cutting and explosive objects) are strictly prohibited in the passenger’s carry-on luggage.

Due to the increasing frequency of terrorist attacks, requirements have been tightened and restrictions have been introduced on liquids, even on toiletries and cosmetics (it is interesting that shaving foam and toothpaste are also classified as liquids). The maximum volume of liquid in any container must not exceed 100 milliliters, and the total amount of liquid per person in hand luggage cannot exceed one liter. In addition, all liquids must be placed in one resealable transparent bag.

And the remaining liquids exceeding this volume will have to be packed in checked baggage, where they will be accepted without any problems. Baby food and medications that may be needed during the flight can be packed in a transparent, non-sealable bag.

Carrying liquids on an airplane
In addition to the free baggage allowance, you can bring alcohol, cigarettes and perfumes purchased at Duty Free, items of clothing, flowers, canes, umbrellas, a folded stroller, a cradle, a book, a laptop (they are not presented at weigh-in).

CHECKED BAGGAGE. We've sorted out the hand luggage, now we'll pack the checked luggage. The norms for carried checked baggage are established according to only two systems:

Limitation (norms) on the number of seats and weight
- weight limit (norms)

In most cases, standards are set for the number of seats. What does it mean? The passenger has the right to carry free of charge:
in business class - two pieces weighing no more than 32 kilograms each
in economy class - one seat, no more than 23 kilograms each

Some companies, in order to attract customers, allow additional pieces of free baggage. For example, on Czech airlines, Gold and Elite Plus cardholders are entitled to free transportation of one additional piece of baggage, but weighing no more than 23 kilograms.

What should you keep in mind when packing? The rules for transporting baggage on an airplane state that the weight of baggage cannot be added up! If one suitcase is heavier than the allowable limit, and the other is lighter than the permissible limit, but in total they do not exceed the permitted limit, then you will still have to pay extra for the overweight of the first suitcase. The weight of a suitcase or bag is taken into account when weighing it.

Remember! During transportation, the weight of luggage is not summed up
Weight restrictions (baggage allowance) means that a passenger has the right to carry any number of bags free of charge, but their total weight must be equal to or less than the norm for a given route and class of service. The current weight limit for a specific route must be found in the ticket or in the fare rules on the airline’s website. For example, at Air Astana, the total weight of baggage and hand luggage is no more than thirty kilograms for business class and twenty kilograms for economy class passengers.

What is the size limit for free baggage allowance? According to safety requirements, the maximum size of one piece of packed luggage is established based on the sum of three dimensions (length, width, height). As a rule, this is 158 cm. There are also exceptions here - for the companies Utair.ru and S7 Airlines, the dimensions of one piece of packed luggage should not exceed 203 centimeters and a weight of 32 kilograms at the comfort class fare.

An exception is made for wheelchairs, musical instruments, and sports equipment that cannot be divided into parts.

Absolutely all airlines have a general rule - excess baggage by weight, quantity, dimensions must be paid at the appropriate rates. Each company has its own rates for paying overweight.

Attention! If you pay extra for excess weight, the weight of one piece of checked baggage cannot exceed 50 kg!

In addition to the baggage requirements of carrier airlines, each specific country has a list of things and products that are restricted or prohibited from being imported or exported into the country. For example, you cannot import more than 200 cigarettes into Turkey, and you cannot import gambling equipment into Israel.

In law Order of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated June 28, 2007 No. 82 (as amended on January 14, 2019) “On approval of the Federal Aviation Rules “General rules for the air transportation of passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees”” (registered with the Ministry of Justice of Russia on September 27 .2007 No. 10186)
In any Russian airline you can carry up to 5 kg of things on board for free. There are carriers that allow you to take 10 or 15 kg.

As a rule, the more expensive the ticket, the more things you can carry in the cabin. Typically, for economy class flights, one piece of hand luggage is provided, and for business class flights, two. But here everything depends on the carrier: some companies have their own standards for each fare, route, aircraft, while others have a single standard for everyone.

Dimensions are not specified in the law, so each carrier can set its own rules. Typically, bags with dimensions of 55 × 40 × 20 cm or with the sum of three dimensions equal to 115 cm are allowed on board. Such a suitcase will fit in the overhead luggage rack along with the hand luggage of other passengers.

You can also take a handbag, briefcase or backpack with things in excess of the norm. It is assumed that you will place them under the seat in front, so the permitted weight and dimensions may be less than for carry-on luggage. For example, up to 3 kg and no more than 80 cm in the sum of three dimensions.

Carefully read the rules on the company’s website: if the weight of free excess baggage is not indicated there, check this on the website or by phone.

Also, instead of an additional bag, briefcase or backpack, you can take for free:

  • bouquet of flowers;
  • outerwear;
  • baby food for the child during the flight;
  • suit in a suitcase (check weight and dimensions);
  • a device for carrying a child (cradle, chair, stroller) - provided that you are flying with a child and can fit these things on a shelf or under the seat;
  • medications, special dietary needs in the amount required for the duration of the flight;
  • crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, a folding wheelchair, if you can fit them in the cabin on a shelf or under the seat;
  • goods from Duty Free, if they are suitable in weight and dimensions and are sealed in a sealed bag (check weight and dimensions).

The basic rule: what you are going to take into the cabin must fit on a shelf or under the seat. Ask the carrier in advance how much excess hand luggage he will allow you to carry.

How to check hand luggage at the airport

If your hand luggage looks bulky, it will be weighed at the airport and the dimensions will be checked using a special frame. This is a plastic container or two walls that your suitcase should fit into. In this case, everything should fit in, including handles and wheels.

To avoid having to pay extra for hand luggage, choose soft bags or a backpack with drawstring straps that reduce the size of the already packed travel accessory.

Most people don't know what they can take in hand luggage according to the new 2020 rules and what they can't. Therefore, many people face certain problems at the airport. Rule number one is that each passenger is allowed to take only one carry-on baggage. However, in addition to your hand luggage, you can additionally take a handbag, a computer bag (many airlines now include a laptop in hand luggage), an umbrella, a shopping bag, a camera and similar things. They are considered personal items, so the weight of hand luggage will not be affected.

Transportation of liquids

You can carry liquids, gels and aerosols in your carry-on baggage only in small quantities (maximum 100 ml per package). The packaging of these products must meet specific requirements. They apply to all passengers flying from European Union airports. If you want to carry more, you will have to check in and pay for your luggage.

These rules apply not only to liquids such as water and soft drinks, but also apply to gels, creams, lotions and aerosols. Also included are toiletries such as toothpaste, shaving cream, hair gel, lip gloss and face creams.

There are two exceptions:

  • baby food required for the duration of the flight;
  • medications required for the flight.

Is it possible to bring in Duty-free purchases?

You can shop (duty-free) at airports after passport control, as well as on board flights. Liquids and gels that you buy in duty-free or on board an aircraft should be packaged and sealed in the store, or on board if necessary. The seal on the packaging is valid for up to 24 hours.

MOSCOW, February 22 – RIA Novosti, Svetlana Baeva. A laptop, a camera - only in permitted hand luggage or checked luggage - Aeroflot's strict rules for transporting personal belongings have once again caused active controversy among passengers.

The national carrier has once again clarified the rules for carrying hand luggage on board aircraft.

The first is the dimensions: no more than 55 centimeters in length, 40 in width, 20 in height. Secondly, the maximum weight for economy class is 10 kilograms, for business - 15 kilograms.

The parameters should include both professional equipment, for example, video and photo cameras, and children’s umbrellas, which previously could be carried in excess of the norm. Read about what you can take with you into the cabin of the plane from RIA Novosti.

Above normal

“In addition to the established norm and without additional payment, you can carry in the cabin: a backpack weighing no more than 5 kg and measuring no more than 80 cm in the sum of three dimensions or a handbag,” Aeroflot reports. You can also take with you a bouquet of flowers, outerwear, and a suit in a suitcase for free.

Baby food and devices for carrying a child (weighing no more than 7 kg and dimensions no more than 42x50x20 cm) are not subject to the restriction. As well as medications and equipment necessary for passengers with disabilities (crutches, canes, walkers, rollators, folding wheelchairs). You can also take a bag of Duty Free goods with you, but only one.

In case of transportation of a musical instrument as hand luggage, transportation of other hand luggage (in addition to items carried in excess of the established allowance without charging an additional fee) is not permitted.

Aeroflot published information about these rules on its pages on social networks. Facebook , In contact with, and on the official website.

“Knowing the airline’s rules will make your trip even more comfortable,” writes Aeroflot.

Go through the cordon

The Travel.ru portal clarified that the list of things “in excess of the established norm and without additional payment” has been reduced by three times. Cell phones, laptops, cameras, video cameras, umbrellas, folders for papers and printed publications for reading in flight disappeared from it. All this should fit either in 10-15 kg and the proposed dimensions, or in an excess backpack and handbag.

The portal even writes about the control cordons installed by Aeroflot in the customs control zone at Sheremetyevo: “The employees at these cordons require passengers whose hand luggage even slightly exceeds 55x40x20 centimeters to return and check it in as luggage.” By the way, if the baggage allowance has already been exhausted, then such check-in will be paid - 2500 rubles within Russia, 50 US dollars on short-term international routes and 100 dollars on long-distance routes.

The carrier clarified that “it does not introduce additional restrictions and does not change the carry-on baggage standards, but only strengthens control over their compliance and brings the company’s standards into compliance with the federal aviation regulations, which have been amended.”

“A camera, telephone and other electronic devices,” the Aeroflot press service reports, “are accepted for transportation if they are packed in hand luggage, the quantity, dimensions and weight of which comply with the airline’s rules.”

If the established standards are exceeded, they are transported according to the general rules for the carriage of checked free and excess baggage in the luggage compartment of the aircraft in special protective cases.

Logic and bureaucracy

In the comments to message Passengers remember how it was: “They just didn’t check hand luggage at check-in before. Now, apparently, they will monitor this,” says Dmitry Gladyshev.

“The problem is not the dimensions, everything is fine here. The question is that according to the new rules, a laptop, a tablet, and a camera are INCLUDED in 10 kilograms. Previously, they were above,” writes Anastasia Bakhmutova.

The new rules have already become an unpleasant surprise for many passengers. “Thank you” to Aeroflot for innovations,” says Anton Gladyshev. “It’s clear that people who carry everything on board are sick and tired, but, for example, our company had a problem with transporting television equipment. Our camera with a bag does not fit through dimensions".

Aeroflot offered the only option - to check it in as luggage. But there, according to the passenger, no one will be held responsible for her. “No exceptions were offered. Even if there are six of us, and we all have three bags as personal luggage, two of which meet the standards,” he continues.

“As a result, we take up less space than the average passenger, but even this does not help. Logic and bureaucracy are incompatible!” is Anton’s conclusion.

The only thing they could offer him was a Fragile ribbon (fragile luggage). However, according to the stories of passengers, it is not a panacea: “The Samsonite suitcase on which you can sit arrived cracked,” the discussion continues.

A common question from passengers is that hand luggage fits according to the sum of three dimensions, but does not fit in dimensions - is this allowed?

“My carry-on baggage was two millimeters too small for the dimensions, and they forced me to check it in. It’s unclear who will win a seat with these two millimeters,” Veronika Andreeva is surprised.

Strictly according to regulations

People who booked tickets on the airline’s website on February 21 and 22 claim that there are no stated restrictions on equipment in excess of the norm: “I need to check the box that I have read and agree with all the rules and conditions. At the same time, I open the Air Rules transportation of passengers and luggage (the link leads to the file, and there in the paragraph

(6 ratings, average: 4,67 out of 5)

Today, air travel is becoming increasingly popular. And due to the fact that many airlines have begun to release cheap tickets on the market, which provide only hand luggage, it would not hurt to familiarize yourself with the concept of “hand luggage”, what it includes, what restrictions there are in terms of weight and dimensions.

Hand luggage This is the luggage that the passenger takes with him into the aircraft cabin without checking it into the baggage compartment.

Baggage– these are suitcases, bags, trunks and other things that, upon check-in for a flight, are checked into the luggage compartment on the plane and handed out after landing.

How much hand luggage can you take with you?

Airlines place restrictions on baggage size and contents in hand luggage.

Standard size hand luggage must be 56cm×45cm×25cm . That is, you cannot combine three tickets (if a family is flying), which allow luggage of the specified dimensions, and carry a huge trunk half a man’s height and weighing 50 kg into the cabin of the plane! The passenger is required to pack his luggage in a small suitcase that will fit into the dimensions indicated above.

Airlines have the right to slightly change the size of hand luggage depending on the aircraft for which such tickets are sold. Because hand luggage is placed in compartments above the seats, and airplane models are different and not every suitcase will fit there.

How can I check that my carry-on luggage fits the specified dimensions?

You can measure the dimensions of what you are going to take with you on the plane at home in advance, but this is usually done at the airport before checking in for the flight. In order to check in advance whether your hand luggage corresponds to the stated dimensions and restrictions, air carriers install special cages at airports. If your bag or suitcase fits there and the top lid closes freely, then the luggage corresponds to the permitted dimensions. Please note that the restrictions do not depend on the airport, but on the requirements of the airline, so choose the cage of the one with which you are going to fly.
