When you ask a resident of Sukhoi Log what the most beautiful place in the city is, the answer you will hear is the square. This is true.
In its southwestern part, the Crystal Palace of Culture seems to be admiring itself. In place of former puddles and swamps, flower beds were laid out, trees and shrubs were planted, and a swimming pool with a fountain was built. The cozy, beautiful square has become a favorite vacation spot for the townspeople. Here lovers make appointments, and an orchestra plays on summer Saturday evenings. Both pensioners and young people gather to the sounds of waltz and tango. Even from neighboring cities, guests come to admire the bright colors of the lawns, shimmering from the illumination of streams of water, and the children frolicking on the wide paths and trying to get under the fan of silvery water dust...
The square is the calling card of our city.
In the mornings, more and more people appear here, rushing to work. Cement workers are rushing to catch buses to leave the city where their enterprise is located.
OJSC "Sukholozhskcement" today stands firmly on its feet. Last year, the plant produced 2,327 thousand tons of products, that is, it reached the 1993 level in terms of production volume. The country is on an economic boom, the scale of construction is growing. Cement has become the most popular material, and there is a shortage of it. Sukhoi Log regularly receives equipment from Europe. Units and mechanisms - about 900 containers and wooden boxes, with a total weight of about seven thousand tons! Before reaching the Urals, they traveled a long way from Northern Italy by sea around Europe to Antwerp, where the German part of the cargo was added, and then to St. Petersburg. Here the ship was unloaded, the equipment was delivered by a caravan of cars to Sukhoi Log, and powerful trucks returned to the northern capital for the next portion. This is a unique transport operation considering that some of the blocks weigh 150 tons and rise up to 19 meters.
The commissioning of a new, fifth production line is planned for 2009. With its launch, the enterprise's capacity increases by 1.5 times. This, among other things, will contribute to the implementation of the government program “Comfortable and Affordable Housing”. After all, Sukholozhskcement is the only enterprise in the city that builds an apartment building. The box has already been erected and finishing work has begun.
On the territory of Sukholozhye there are more than a dozen enterprises that produce products that are in demand by customers: slate, asbestos-cement pipes, precast reinforced concrete, refractory bricks and fibers.
In 1992, there were six agricultural enterprises in the area. Four survived: the state farms "Sukholozhsky", "Znamensky", JSC "Novopyshminskoye" and the cooperative "Filatovsky". Recently, there has been an increase in production volumes, albeit insignificant.
... My neighbor, a former engineer and now a pensioner, loves to walk around the city. He has a regular route: he will go out to the square, admire the fountain, then slowly walk along Gorky Street. A multi-storey building is being built at its intersection with Belinsky Street.
Then he goes to Artillery Street to see how the area around the house, which was put into operation in December last year, is being improved.
Local governments actively support small businesses. Allocate funds from the budget. A business incubator has been created for beginners, competitions are held, and mini-loans are issued. If in 2001 young businessmen contributed five percent of all income to the city budget, then in 2007 - already 21%. Entrepreneurs are engaged not only in trade: they make furniture, windows and doors from wood, and raise livestock for meat. Peasant farms "Simbioz", "Temp" and others supply about 90% of potatoes and vegetables to the market. In total, more than 4,000 people are employed in small businesses.
In 2007, 314 million rubles were allocated for municipal educational institutions, including more than a million for major repairs.
Rural schools are solving the problem of transportation. Using funds from the regional budget, buses were purchased for Znamenskaya, Kurinskaya and Talitskaya schools.
The coaching staff of the Children's Youth Sports School achieved particular success. Over the 35 years of its existence, trainers have raised dozens of “swallows” who have made and are beginning a wonderful flight in their sporting life.
... And we continue our excursion. Almost next to the 9-story building under construction there is a children's hospital and a hospital campus. These institutions are familiar to all residents of the district, young and old. Look at the obstetric building, what it has become. Several years ago it was completely dismantled, leaving only the skeleton of the walls. Everything was replaced here: ceilings, window and door blocks, roofing, modern cladding of the external walls was made, furniture was completely replaced, which still remembered the times of the Great Patriotic War. The surgical building is being renovated. Paramedic stations have been updated in Altynai, the villages of Znamenskoye, Filatovskoye, and Talitsa.
The city administration provides great assistance. In 2007, two general practitioners arrived in Sukhoi Log - experienced specialists who had previously studied at the Ural State Medical Academy. They were provided with free housing in the city.

Have you heard about the city of Sukhoi Log? No? Have you ever seen bags of cement with the inscription “Sukholozhskcement”? That's where they make it, in Sukhoi Log. And I will give you a short tour of this small town.

The city of Sukhoi Log is located one hundred kilometers from Yekaterinburg in the southeast of the Sverdlovsk region. The population is only about fifty thousand people. How did it all begin? The first settlement appeared around 1662. The first settlers sailed along the Pyshma River, on its banks and began to settle. Therefore, the first name of the settlement is Pyshminskaya Zaimka. Many of the first settlers were Old Believers. In 1710, the first census was carried out, and the settlement was already called Sukhoi Log. The name comes from the steep ravines, which remained dry in all seasons except spring. And it began...

Entrance to the city

In 1725, the Bykov brothers began to build the first water mill on the Pyshma River. Now the Bykov surname is very common in the city. The previous head of the city also bears the same surname. By the way, Sukhoi Log received city status only in 1943.

The first large enterprise was the paper mill of the English entrepreneur Yates, built in 1879-1886. She still works now.

In addition to the paper mill, the town has a large number of industrial enterprises. The first cement plant was created on the basis of the Sukhologa and Kunar deposits of limestone and clay. Now the city has two cement plants, a secondary non-ferrous metals plant, and a refractory plant.

The town is quite small, but cozy. It is especially beautiful here in the spring, when everything blooms and leaves appear on the trees, and in the summer. The city is very green. There are a lot of trees here, and the city's favorite place is the city square. Here everyone says: “Meet me in the square, let’s take a walk in the square,” and it immediately becomes clear where. The square is located in the city center, in front of the Crystal Palace of Culture. By the way, this recreation center has a large number of clubs and sections, and a local history museum has been opened. And also, after a long absence, a cinema hall opened. The films are new, the screenings keep up with Yekaterinburg.

Flowers in the city square

And the square is full of life. Here you can sit on a bench; children love to run around the fountain (which lights up at night), roller skates and bicycles. There are a large number of pigeons here, and everyone feeds them, although they have already asked not to do this, because stupid birds trample down the flowers in the flower beds that bloom all summer, and the grass on the lawns. But what photographs do you get when a flock of pigeons takes off into flight... The city administration is also located here, and you can sometimes meet the head of the city rushing to work. The Education Department is also here. There is also a monument to Lenin (where would we be without him).

Fountain in the city square

Sukhoi Log can be walked from end to end in probably half an hour. And during the walk you will see how quickly the city is changing, for the better. The city stadium has artificial turf, and next to the stadium there is also, as everyone calls it, a “small stadium”. It used to be a field with a pair of football goals and a stage. They preferred to hold city holidays here. But it was very unpleasant to “celebrate” here in the rain - mud, wet grass. In general, the small stadium was transformed and turned into Yubileiny Square, very beautiful - with tiled flooring and benches.

Cyclists in the city are very lucky - bicycle parking has been organized near the shops. Now you don’t have to frantically look for where to attach your “iron friend”.

Sukhoi Log also has its own printed publications. One of the most popular is the newspaper “Victory Banner”. But everyone affectionately calls her “Znamenka”. “Znamenka” is very informative, you can read city news in it, and various decrees are published.

Sights in the vicinity of Sukhoi Log

And now you can explore the outskirts of the city. First, we'll probably go to the village of Kuri. Many people have probably heard about him. Yes, the Kuryi resort is located here. And if you walk around its territory (which is not forbidden to anyone), you can admire the view of the surrounding area from the Three Sisters rock, on its top there is a gazebo. No need to be lazy, just go a little further and search, and you can find the Devil’s Chair rock. You won’t notice it right away; it’s already overgrown with forest.

Now you can move towards the village of Shata. Here is a phenomenon quite unique for the Middle Urals - a gorge with a waterfall! And all this in the middle of a field. After the village of Shata, you need to drive a little further along the road and turn right onto a dirt road, and here it is!

It's worth relaxing and taking a walk here. The waterfall, although small (about five meters), is very picturesque. It is especially beautiful when the snow melts and after long rains. A little higher along the Shata River (where the Shatsky waterfall is located), there are very beautiful rocks. One of them is called Gendarme. Downstream there are also rocks. And there are a lot of mushrooms in season. Shatsky waterfall and its surroundings are a favorite place for schoolchildren and students to hold tours. People also go hiking here. Previously, the place was unequipped, “wild,” but now they have erected a gazebo and equipped a spring.

If you go further, you can, driving past the ancient village of Znamensky with a beautiful church, see Sletovskaya Polyana and the Diviy Stone rock. The annual song festival “Znamenka” is held at Sletovskaya Polyana. It is also called “Belenkovka”. That's why, honestly, I don't know. The festival is always attended by headliners, it is very noisy, fun and interesting, and there are a lot of construction crews. Opposite the clearing, on the other bank is the Diviy stone.

A little more about the Pyshma River, on the banks of which Sukhoi Log stands. This is a very difficult river. Looking at it now, within the city, in the area that everyone calls Gortop, it is quite difficult to imagine that it was along it that the first settlers sailed. The river is very shallow and overgrown with algae. But if in Gortop, after going down Leninskaya Gorka and the bridge, you turn left, then you can go to beautiful rocks and a dam. Behind the dam the river overflows, and there are different depths here. True, you can’t really buy anything here, the whole bottom is silted.

On the Pyshma River there is another local attraction - the Tyumen Caves, Gebauer Cave and some others. At first glance, they may seem simple to complete. But most of their passages are so narrow that even a slender person has difficulty squeezing through.

City Day in Sukhoi Log is celebrated on the second Sunday of August. A large number of events are held on Yubileiny and City squares. For several years in a row, a city carnival procession was held. And just like at any birthday, a huge cake is baked and everyone is treated to it. Although the first among those who wish to attend are, of course, children.

I haven’t told you everything about the small town of Sukhoi Log, at the entrance to which there is a huge block with the inscription “Cement is the bread of construction,” but I hope now you know more about it than before.

An excerpt characterizing Sukhoi Log (city)

“It’s impossible to tell her now,” Princess Marya said.
- But what should I do?
“Entrust this to me,” said Princess Marya. - I know…
Pierre looked into Princess Marya's eyes.
“Well, well...” he said.
“I know that she loves... will love you,” Princess Marya corrected herself.
Before she had time to say these words, Pierre jumped up and, with a frightened face, grabbed Princess Marya by the hand.
- Why do you think so? Do you think I can hope? You think?!
“Yes, I think so,” said Princess Marya, smiling. - Write to your parents. And instruct me. I'll tell her when it's possible. I wish this. And my heart feels that this will happen.
- No, this cannot be! How happy I am! But this cannot be... How happy I am! No, it can not be! - Pierre said, kissing the hands of Princess Marya.
– You go to St. Petersburg; it is better. “And I’ll write to you,” she said.
- To St. Petersburg? Drive? Okay, yes, let's go. But can I come to you tomorrow?
The next day Pierre came to say goodbye. Natasha was less animated than in previous days; but on this day, sometimes looking into her eyes, Pierre felt that he was disappearing, that neither he nor she was there anymore, but there was only a feeling of happiness. “Really? No, it can’t be,” he said to himself with every look, gesture, and word that filled his soul with joy.
When, saying goodbye to her, he took her thin, thin hand, he involuntarily held it in his a little longer.
“Is this hand, this face, these eyes, all this alien treasure of feminine charm, will it all be forever mine, familiar, the same as I am for myself? No, It is Immpossible!.."
“Goodbye, Count,” she said to him loudly. “I’ll be waiting for you,” she added in a whisper.
And these simple words, the look and facial expression that accompanied them, for two months formed the subject of Pierre’s inexhaustible memories, explanations and happy dreams. “I will be waiting for you very much... Yes, yes, as she said? Yes, I will be waiting for you very much. Oh, how happy I am! What is this, how happy I am!” - Pierre said to himself.

Nothing now happened in Pierre's soul similar to what happened in it in similar circumstances during his matchmaking with Helen.
He did not repeat, as then, with painful shame the words he had spoken, he did not say to himself: “Oh, why didn’t I say this, and why, why did I say “je vous aime” then?” [I love you] Now, on the contrary, he repeated every word of hers, his own, in his imagination with all the details of her face, smile, and did not want to subtract or add anything: he only wanted to repeat. There was no longer even a shadow of doubt as to whether what he had undertaken was good or bad. Only one terrible doubt sometimes crossed his mind. Isn't this all in a dream? Was Princess Marya mistaken? Am I too proud and arrogant? I believe; and suddenly, as should happen, Princess Marya will tell her, and she will smile and answer: “How strange! He was probably mistaken. Doesn’t he know that he is a man, just a man, and I?.. I am completely different, higher.”
Only this doubt often occurred to Pierre. He also didn’t make any plans now. The impending happiness seemed so incredible to him that as soon as it happened, nothing could happen. It was all over.
A joyful, unexpected madness, of which Pierre considered himself incapable, took possession of him. The whole meaning of life, not for him alone, but for the whole world, seemed to him to lie only in his love and in the possibility of her love for him. Sometimes all the people seemed to him to be occupied with only one thing - his future happiness. It seemed to him sometimes that they were all as happy as he was, and were only trying to hide this joy, pretending to be busy with other interests. In every word and movement he saw hints of his happiness. He often surprised people who met him with his significant, happy looks and smiles that expressed secret agreement. But when he realized that people might not know about his happiness, he felt sorry for them with all his heart and felt a desire to somehow explain to them that everything they were doing was complete nonsense and trifles, not worth attention.
When he was offered to serve or when they discussed some general, state affairs and war, assuming that the happiness of all people depended on this or that outcome of such and such an event, he listened with a meek, sympathetic smile and surprised the people who spoke to him with his strange remarks. But both those people who seemed to Pierre to understand the real meaning of life, that is, his feeling, and those unfortunate ones who obviously did not understand this - all people during this period of time seemed to him in such a bright light of the feeling shining in him that without the slightest effort, he immediately, meeting any person, saw in him everything that was good and worthy of love.
Looking at the affairs and papers of his late wife, he did not feel any feeling for her memory, except pity that she did not know the happiness that he knew now. Prince Vasily, now especially proud of receiving a new place and star, seemed to him a touching, kind and pitiful old man.
Pierre often later recalled this time of happy madness. All the judgments that he made about people and circumstances during this period of time remained true for him forever. He not only did not subsequently renounce these views on people and things, but, on the contrary, in internal doubts and contradictions he resorted to the view that he had at this time of madness, and this view always turned out to be correct.
“Perhaps,” he thought, “I seemed strange and funny then; but I was not as mad then as it seemed. On the contrary, I was then smarter and more insightful than ever, and I understood everything that is worth understanding in life, because ... I was happy.”
Pierre's madness consisted in the fact that he did not wait, as before, for personal reasons, which he called the merits of people, in order to love them, but love filled his heart, and he, loving people for no reason, found undoubted reasons for which it was worth loving their.

From that first evening, when Natasha, after Pierre's departure, told Princess Marya with a joyfully mocking smile that he was definitely, well, definitely from the bathhouse, and in a frock coat, and with a haircut, from that moment something hidden and unknown to her, but irresistible, awoke in Natasha's soul.
Everything: her face, her gait, her gaze, her voice - everything suddenly changed in her. Unexpected for her, the power of life and hopes for happiness surfaced and demanded satisfaction. From the first evening, Natasha seemed to have forgotten everything that had happened to her. Since then, she never once complained about her situation, didn’t say a single word about the past and was no longer afraid to make cheerful plans for the future. She spoke little about Pierre, but when Princess Marya mentioned him, a long-extinguished sparkle lit up in her eyes and her lips wrinkled with a strange smile.
