An all-day ticket ensures that you have time to appreciate all the water slides, attractions and pools, while relaxing on the green lawns or on rented sun loungers during breaks. Please note that children whose height does not exceed 80 cm have the right to attend free of charge. If you prefer open spaces, Lloret de Mar has diving and snorkelling centres, catamaran rentals, horseback riding, go-karting, golf and tennis courses.

The coast of Lloret de Mar will surprise you with an abundance of ancient buildings and other attractions, the inspection of which adds pleasant variety to the memories of a Spanish holiday and the photo albums of vacationers. Right on the way to the hotel, you can admire the embankment or visit one of the local museums. Among them are historical, marine and even a unique “cat”, which presents more than 6 thousand figurines of these pets from different countries and eras. An entrance ticket to various exhibitions will cost 3-4 euros per person.

The main symbol of Lloret has settled on the edge of that same municipal beach. We are talking about a two-meter statue, named “The Fisherman’s Wife.” It was installed in honor of the city's thousand-year anniversary and depicts a woman seeing off (or welcoming - who knows?) ships entering the bay. There is a belief: if a person stands next to the pedestal, looks in the same direction as the bronze figure, holding its foot, he will see the path to making his dream come true. It’s worth going up to Dona marinera even for those who don’t believe in miraculous fulfillment of wishes, because from the site there is a beautiful view of the sea.

High on the rocks is another iconic building of Lloret de Mar - the San Juan Castle, the same age as the first settlement. Of course, its walls, under the influence of time and the elements, have lost their former indestructibility, but the structures that have survived to this day have been restored, so tourists have the opportunity not only to see the ancient fortress from afar, but also to visit inside.

Castell d'en Plaja also looks impressive, although this building is not a castle - the medieval stylization project was commissioned by industrialist Narcis Plaja to one of the Girona architects in 1935. The building is still privately owned and closed to the public, but this does not prevent it from being decorated photographs of vacationers and souvenirs.

But the Chapel of St. Quirze (Ermita San Quirze) and the Church of St. Roman are truly the historical heritage of the region and deserve the attention of guests of the city of Lloret de Mar. The first is an example of traditional rural architecture of Catalonia, so it looks strict and laconic. Archaeologists suggest that long before the appearance of the chapel, which dates back to the 11th century, an early Christian church in honor of the Magi or a funerary monument from the same era stood on this site. Iglesia de Sant Romà is significantly younger, but it has also gone through many changes since the 16th century before acquiring its current recognizable appearance. By the way, both churches are active, and those who wish can attend services there or simply admire the interior decoration.

We advise you not to miss the opportunity to get into a unique open-air memorial museum - the Modernist Cemetery, where family crypts built at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries are located. Each of them is equipped with a plaque indicating the name of the author of the project and brief comments on the symbolic meaning of the architectural elements.

And if walking along the quiet alleys between the tombstones seems too depressing a pastime for you, go with a light heart to the gardens of Saint Clotilde. The park, which appeared in 1911, is reminiscent of the best examples of garden art of the Renaissance. Visitors describe it as a luxurious yet elegant and sophisticated place where nothing is “too much”. Grottoes, sculptures, ponds, fountains, natural landscapes and carefully planted flora combine harmoniously, creating an atmosphere of peace and upliftment.

“We chose Lloret de Mar as the starting point on our travels. The only inconvenient thing is that there is no direct train connection to the resort. From Barcelona you need to take a train to Blanes for about 1.5 hours, and then change to a bus and drive another 20 minutes. It’s more convenient to take a direct bus from Barcelona.”

Climate

Lloret de Mar, like the entire Costa Brava, differs from other resorts in Spain in its cooler climate. The tourist season here lasts from May to October, when the thermometer remains at 25-28°C. “We always go on holiday at the end of the season. We arrived in Costa Brava in October. Lloret de Mar was already completely empty, which made me feel sad at times. The weather let us down: out of 14 days, only 4 were sunny and hot.”

Beaches

The central part of the resort is centered around the long (1.5 km) but narrow (40 m) municipal beach of Lloret. Nearby, the calmer Fenals beach stretches 750 meters along the coast. “The beach has very coarse sand, it is easy to shake off and does not leave dirt. The entry into the sea is smooth, but after 50-100 meters it becomes very deep and a strong current appears. I do not recommend this place to families with children.”

Lloret de Mar is a budget resort with no frills and luxurious service. Mostly three-star hotels operate here, which are standard buildings with a small area and a swimming pool. “The center seemed very noisy to me. And there is nothing there that is worth settling for: no shopping, no attractions, no authentic restaurants. Therefore, we rented an apartment in the new Fenals area on the outskirts. Very neat, quiet, green area with nice buildings. All around are picturesque landscapes, a long embankment, and a pine grove. There are supermarkets, restaurants and cafes. We walked to the center of the resort, about 10-15 minutes.”

Entertainment

One of the favorite places of entertainment for children and adults is the gnome park.

“Lots of cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs everywhere. Prices are very, very affordable, even at the current euro exchange rate. Russian speech is understood everywhere. The restaurants serve delicious food, and almost everywhere there are great deals on set lunches. I liked it at La Parilla. The portions are huge, and they also bring compliments from the establishment. You can go to the Gran Casino for flamenco.”

“Pleasure boats depart from the central beach to neighboring Tossa de Mar, Blanes and back. A round-trip ticket costs 15 euros, the sailing time is about 50 minutes. I advise you to take a trip to Tossa and get acquainted with the flavor of Mediterranean Europe.”

“One of the features of the resort is the largest water park in the Costa Brava, Water World. There are a lot of slides and other water activities for adrenaline junkies. The coolest one is the diving tower. There is a separate playground for children - a whole island. There are cafes and you can sunbathe or have a picnic on the lawns. So I advise you to go and have fun for the whole day. We paid 65 euros for a family ticket (2 adults + child). You can get there by free bus from the bus station.”

Attractions

Tourist, lacking polish and authenticity, Lloret de Mar is, however, proud of its thousand-year history. A small fishing village that has grown into a famous resort has its own treasures.

Climb up to take photos and view the wonderful seascape. There is a fee to enter the castle, but there is nothing inside except a spiral staircase. “I liked two trips most of all - to and to. We got to the museum on our own by bus with a transfer in Girona. To visit the monastery, we first went to Barcelona, ​​and from there by train to Montserrat. Both trips on public transport were very tiring. If finances allow, it’s better to take a tour or a taxi.”
