Yamal LNG project. Vacancies at Yamal LNG

general characteristics

Yamal LNG is the second liquefied gas production plant in Russia, with a capacity of 16.5 million tons per year. Construction will take place in three stages of 5.5 million tons each. The deadline for putting the first line of the plant into commercial operation was shifted from 2016 to 2017. By this time, the development and the necessary volume of drilling to put the field into operation should be completed, a port should be built and an icebreaker-class tanker fleet should be formed. However, due to the difficult economic situation in the country that developed towards the end of 2014, as well as foreign policy problems, the timing of the Yamal LNG project is being shifted again. In particular, Total stated that it no longer expects to start production in 2017.

As of February 2015, the construction of Yamal LNG facilities has been completed by 20-25%, orders have been placed for equipment with long lead times, including cryogenic heat exchangers, gas turbines, compressors for liquefaction lines; 22 production wells have been drilled, more than 3,100 construction workers are already working on the sites. The site for the construction of the plant has been prepared, the construction of a pile foundation for LNG tanks has begun, and the construction of a seaport is at an advanced stage. In December 2014, the first passenger plane landed at Sabetta Airport. Upon completion, the airport will be able to accommodate all types of aircraft, including cargo aircraft.

In November 2013, NOVATEK announced the possibility of expanding the Yamal LNG project to 25-30 million tons per year using the reserves of the peninsula. The resource base for expanding the project could be the reserves of the Salmanovskoye (Utrenneye) and Geofizicheskoye fields.

As part of the project, the main tenders were held and key contracts were concluded:

  • In April 2013, Yamal LNG OJSC, following a tender, signed an agreement with the consortium Technip (France) and JGC Corp. (Japan) for the design, supply of equipment, materials and components, construction and commissioning (EPC contract) of a complex for the treatment and liquefaction of natural gas based on the South Tambeyskoye field.
  • In September 2013, Yamal LNG OJSC entered into a contract with the German Siemens for the supply of key elements of a thermal power plant, which will supply Yamal LNG with electricity and heat. Siemens' responsibilities include the manufacture, testing, delivery, installation and commissioning of eight gas turbines and other equipment.
  • In October 2013, Yamgaz SNC, a joint venture between Technip and JGC, selected the American General Electric as the supplier of the main turbocompressor equipment for three trains of the LNG plant.
  • In January 2014, Yamgaz SNC signed an agreement with the French Vinci for the construction of four LNG storage facilities with a capacity of 160 thousand cubic meters. meters each.
  • In January 2014, Yamgaz SNC entered into a contract with the Japanese Yokogawa Electric for the supply of integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) for the Yamal LNG project.
  • In July 2014, Yamgaz SNC entered into a contract with the Chinese Offshore Oil Engineering Co. (COOEC) for the manufacture of key gas liquefaction equipment worth $1.623 billion.

There are two main reasons for bringing the project to life in Yamal:

  1. Availability of huge resources. The resource base for the plant is the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye field (reserves 1.3 trillion cubic meters), as well as the right to use the subsoil of four more areas granted to NOVATEK by a government decision in August 2011, which should increase the resource base for the plant to 4 .5 trillion cubic meters of gas. These are the Geophysical and Salmanovskoye fields (on the territory of the Gydan Peninsula), as well as the North Ob and East Tambey areas (the water area of the northern part of the Ob Bay).
  2. Project logistics. The unique location of Yamal makes it possible to create a flexible, competitive logistics model that ensures year-round supplies of LNG to the markets of Europe and North America, as well as direct supplies to the Asia-Pacific region via the Northern Sea Route. Total plans to supply Russian LNG from the Yamal Peninsula to the UK and Europe. Exactly how much gas will be sold on the European market and to which companies will become clear over the next few months.

Shareholders

Yamal LNG is the largest LNG production project in Yamal, implemented by the Russian independent gas producer - NOVATEK OJSC. In June 2009, the company acquired a stake in OAO Yamal LNG (51%), and in September 2011, NOVATEK’s share was increased to 100%. In October of the same year, 20% of Yamal LNG was acquired by Total, which became NOVATEK’s strategic partner in the project. In January 2014, a newcomer appeared among the shareholders of the Yamal LNG project. NOVATEK and the Chinese CNPC have closed the purchase and sale transaction of a 20% stake in the Yamal LNG project. After the transaction, shareholders' shares are distributed as follows.

But NOVATEK continues to search for partners who can get another 9% of Yamal LNG. Among the contenders were Chinese, Japanese and Indian companies. However, US sanctions against the company have negatively impacted the prospects for these negotiations. Japanese companies and the Indian oil and gas concern ONGC refused to acquire a stake in Yamal LNG. Now, according to some reports, NOVATEK is thinking about attracting a purely financial investor, which in the current conditions could be a Russian-Chinese investment fund or Gazprombank, which was already interested in a share in the project.

On the night of October 21, the head of Total, Christophe de Margerie, died in a plane crash at Moscow's Vnukovo airport. According to the decision of the company's administration, until 2015, two people will de facto manage the company: Patrick Pouyanné was appointed executive director, and Thierry Desmarais, who had previously been the general director and president of the administrative board of the company, took the post of chairman of the board of directors of Total.

Already at the end of November, the new head of Total, Patrick Pouyanné, confirmed the company’s intentions to cooperate with Russia in the Yamal LNG project.

Investments

Details of the economics of the project are not advertised. Initially, NOVATEK estimated investments in Yamal LNG at $20 billion, but in December 2013 a final investment decision was made on the project and the estimate increased to $26.9 billion.

In May 2014, the China Development Banking Corporation, Vnesheconombank, Gazprombank and Yamal LNG signed a memorandum on organizing financing for the construction of an LNG plant. The Chinese company will act as a general coordinator of interaction with Chinese financial institutions and “will do everything possible” to attract financing from Chinese banks for a period of up to 15 years. Chinese banks are capable of providing about $20 billion to the Yamal LNG project. However, as of today, there are no specific agreements.

So far, Yamal LNG has not guaranteed itself to attract sufficient funds for investment. The project should be 30-40% financed by shareholders, and the remaining amount will be raised through project financing. Shareholders - NOVATEK, Total and CNPC - by mid-2014 had invested 45.2 billion, 31.9 billion and 42.2 billion rubles. respectively. The shareholders agreed on disproportionate financing, and until a certain amount of investment is reached, NOVATEK will proportionally invest several times less than other project participants. In the first half of 2014, 64.4 billion rubles were invested, of which 65.5% came from CNPC, while NOVATEK’s contribution was only 2%. The level at which funding becomes proportional may be reached by the end of 2015.

So far, the project is financed only by shareholders, but these funds are not enough to cover all costs, and the attraction of project financing has not been completed due to sanctions against NOVATEK. The company has agreed to receive $2.3 billion from the SWF and is in talks to receive about $10 billion from Chinese banks, hoping to complete them by mid-year.

The total investment in Yamal LNG is estimated at a trillion rubles (this includes investments in field development, construction of a plant, construction of the Sabetta port, fleet and building logistics along the entire Northern Sea Route). According to official statements, the government intends to take a direct part in the creation of a new northern transport infrastructure. In particular, the total amount of financing for the Yamal LNG project is 97.2 billion rubles. Of these, 71.2 billion rubles were allocated by the government of the country, and 26 billion rubles from extra-budgetary sources. The funds allocated by the government will be used for the construction of seaport facilities near the village of Sabetta and the creation of a shipping access canal in the Gulf of Ob for the transportation of LNG.

The volume of capital investments in the project until 2018 will be: 717.2 billion rubles (53.6% of the total financing) of borrowed funds, 407.3 billion (32%) - funds of participants in the investment project; 150 billion (11.8%) - funds from the National Welfare Fund.

Thanks to the provision of tax preferences, the profitability of the project will be ensured. In particular, it has a zero mineral extraction tax and an export duty. The authorities of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, in turn, zeroed out the property tax for organizations carrying out a unified technological cycle of LNG extraction and production in the territory of the district, and reduced their profit tax. In addition, in February 2015, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree according to which equipment for the Yamal LNG project plant was included in the list of imported products exempt from VAT.

Technologies

The plant is considered a unique energy project in terms of its complexity, since it will be built in harsh climatic conditions. Its implementation requires advanced but proven technologies, including BASF's developments in natural gas purification, Total's innovations in gas liquefaction, storage and transportation, as well as the latest technologies to ensure efficient and environmentally friendly well construction. For example, in January 2013, at Uralmashzavod, production of the newest drilling rig called “Arktika” was completed, which will be used to work at the South Tambeyskoye field. Also, American Air Products & Chemicals will supply three cryogenic heat exchangers that will be used in gas liquefaction processes using mixed pre-cooling refrigerant. In October 2014, Yamgaz SNC entered into a contract with the Philippine The Atlantic Gulf & Pacific Company (AG&P) for the supply of technological modules for Yamal LNG.

Transportation

NOVATEK has decided that there will be no pipeline supplies of gas, and the bet will be placed on the prospects of the Northern Sea Route. Back in 2011, when the Northern Sea Route’s load was 120 thousand tons, NOVATEK’s first large transit tanker was carried along this transport route. Today, the volume of cargo transit along the NSR has already increased to 2 million tons, which indicates an increase in the intensity of use of this route. Now the domestic gas producer is working out the most optimal routes for the movement of large-tonnage tankers along the Northern Sea Route, in particular, north of the New Siberian Islands.

In the summer, LNG will travel along the Northern Sea Route to Asian countries. At the same time, gas will be supplied to the European market only in winter, since the Northern Sea Route is completely covered with ice. And its transportation to Asia will become impossible.

  • As part of the Yamal LNG project, by 2017 it is planned to build 10 icebreakers for transporting liquefied gas, which will become the largest ships built specifically for Arctic conditions. The length of the ships will be 300 meters, power – 40-42 MW, width – 50 meters, capacity – 180 thousand tons. The gas carriers were designed by the Finnish design bureau Aker Arctic.
  • At the Baltic plant, specifically for the implementation of the Yamal LNG project, they began to build a unique nuclear icebreaker - the largest and most powerful in the world. This is the first and lead ship of a new series of icebreakers. In total, it is planned to build three icebreakers of this class.
  • Plans have been announced to build 16 ARC7 class LNG tankers to transport LNG from the port of Sabetta to world markets. They will be built by South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
  • In March 2014, as part of a contract dated July 2013, Sovcomflot ordered Daewoo to build the first icebreaking LNG tanker.
  • In April 2014, it became known that Yamal LNG had formed a list of likely contenders among shipping companies that would transport LNG. The list includes Sovcomflot, Japanese Mitsui OSK and Canadian Teekay LNG.

Sabetta seaport

Construction of the Sabetta seaport began in July 2012. In addition to the export of liquefied gas, the development of the port may provide additional opportunities for the development of new fields in Yamal and the Gulf of Ob. Thus, Sabetta is the main infrastructure component of the project, as well as the only large facility whose construction costs are covered by the federal government, which considers Sabetta as a multi-purpose port for the development of Yamal and the Northern Sea Route (the total investment in the port is 900 billion rubles). . The federal budget allocates 47.3 billion rubles for the construction of the port. In June 2014, it became known that the construction of the Sabetta port had increased in price by 22 billion, to 69.6 billion rubles.

To date, the design of the port has already been completed. As of early October 2013, Yamal LNG received all environmental and expert government approvals for project documentation. Now active construction work is underway there and according to forecasts, the deadline for the completion of the project will not be violated. It is important that dredging work continues, leading to environmental risks. To restore the damage to the fish population in Yamal, it is planned to build a plant for growing juvenile sturgeon and whitefish.

LNG export right

As of September 2014, 98% of future LNG has already been contracted. The trading companies of NOVATEK and Total - Novatek Gas & Power and Total Gas & Power - plan to supply LNG mainly to the markets of the Asia-Pacific region. Yamal LNG has agreed to sell LNG to Spanish Gas Natural (2.5 million tons per year), CNPC (3 million), Total (4 million), Novatek Gas & Power (2.86 million) and Gazprom Marketing & Trading (3 million).
At the end of May 2014, NOVATEK announced the latest major deal to date for the sale of LNG from Yamal, within which Gazprom contracted 3 million tons per year.
In September 2014, it became known that NOVATEK had reserved 5% of the gas from the Yamal LNG project for sale on the free market outside of long-term contracts. In absolute figures we are talking about 820 thousand tons of LNG per year. Taking into account the sale of 5% on the spot, the share of contracted LNG now amounts to more than 98% of the plant’s design capacity. Thus, the company did not leave volumes for a potential buyer of 9% in the project.

In addition, from December 1, 2013, Gazprom lost its export monopoly on liquefied natural gas. Yamal LNG, as well as the LNG plants of Rosneft and Gazprom itself, received the right to export. Now companies will be able to independently and almost without restrictions choose where, to whom and how much to sell LNG.

In September 2014, NOVATEK received a license to export LNG.

Sanctions

In July 2014, NOVATEK, as well as VEB and Gazprombank, fell under US sanctions. They are prohibited from taking loans from American banks for periods exceeding 90 days. Since March, US sanctions have also been in effect against Gennady Timchenko. His share in NOVATEK is 23.49% (through Volga Group, data as of the end of 2012).

Today the situation is like this. NOVATEK itself is not going to change its plans, including with regard to the Yamal LNG project. In turn, Total states that, despite the sanctions, it does not intend to stop cooperation on the implementation of Yamal LNG, while emphasizing that given Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, it would be quite risky to slow down work on the project.

However, here we note the following problem. The fact that NOVATEK was included in the sanctions list significantly reduces the company’s ability to raise funds for the development of the project. Thus, Total clearly determined that it would participate in the project, but its ability to finance its share through European and American banks was significantly limited. In October 2014, it became known that Yamal LNG shareholders had adjusted the financial plan for the project due to sanctions, but the project itself was being implemented according to plan.

The developers of Yamal LNG are already experiencing problems with financing. However, NOVATEK is trying to overcome its financial difficulties with the help of the state. In September 2014, NOVATEK submitted an application to receive 100 billion rubles from the National Welfare Fund for Yamal LNG, and after 5 months - in February 2015 - at a meeting on economic issues held by the President of Russia, it was decided to allocate funds for the project National Welfare Fund in the amount of 150 billion rubles. These funds are invested in Yamal LNG bonds in two tranches of 75 billion rubles each.

However, according to some reports, the plant was already experiencing inconvenience with contractors who were supposed to supply vital components for the gas liquefaction plant. These problems are directly related to sanctions.

Of the top industrial places where I would really, really like to go, or my so-called industrial shortlist-10, Yamal LNG has always been in the forefront, and now my dream is already a reality, I on the Yamal Peninsula above the Arctic Circle in Sabetta.

The Yamal LNG project is a whole complex that includes own resource base based on the South Tambeyskoye field, a number of production facilities, infrastructure component, including the Arctic port (plus a transshipment base will be created in Belgium in the city of Zeebrugge for gas deliveryduring periods of lack of navigation along the Northern Sea Route) and a modern airport to boot. The construction of the unique plant is taking place in the difficult climatic conditions of the Arctic; the entire infrastructure was created practically from scratch, and already in 2017 the first stage of the gas liquefaction plant with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year will be launched. At the moment, the overall readiness for the entire project is somewhere around 51.3%, and the readiness for the first stage is 64.4%. So, friends, today we have another exclusive.

3. This is what the construction site of a gas liquefaction plant looks like now

Liquefied natural gas or LNG for short, as it is commonly called in the professional environment (English Liquefied Natural Gas, abbreviated LNG) is ordinary natural gas (mainly methane, CH4 by 95%, plus ethane, propane, butane, nitrogen, which account for the remaining 5%), cooled to a temperature of –162°C (the so-called liquefaction temperature) for ease of storage and transportation in liquid form. LNG is an odorless and colorless liquid whose density is half that of water. It is non-toxic and non-flammable. When regasification (returning gas to its original vapor state), about 600 cubic meters of ordinary natural gas are formed from one cubic meter of liquefied gas.

The first experimental liquefied natural gas plant was built back in 1912, and in 1941 its large-scale production was established for the first time in Cleveland, Ohio (USA). In Russia, the first such plant was built in 2006 in the village of Prigorodnoye in the south of Sakhalin. Its capacity is 9.6 million tons of LNG. The operator of the Sakhalin-2 project is Sakhalin Energy (the main shareholders are Gazprom Sakhalin Holdings B.V. (100% subsidiary of PJSC Gazprom) - 50% plus one share, Shell Sakhalin Holdings B.V. - 27.5%, Mitsui Sakhalin Holdings B.V. - 12, 5% and Diamond Gas Sakhalin B.V. – 10%). So, our YamalLNG Plant will be second on this list. When asked about competition, the answer was that we are not competitors, already about 96% of LNG is chartered by clients on a long-term basis, mainly for supplies to countries Asia-Pacific region (APR).

The South Tambey gas condensate field was discovered in 1974. Its proven and probable reserves according to PRMS standards as of December 31, 2014 amount to 926 billion cubic meters. m. of gas. The development license was issued until 2045 and belongs to OJSC Yamal LNG. There are plans to drill 208 production wells with horizontal completion at 19 well pads. Already (as of May 1, 2016) the drilling of 50 production wells has been completed, and this is 86% of those required to launch the first stage of the LNG Plant. The Arktika and Aurora drilling rigs manufactured by Uralmash (Ekaterenburg) operate at the fields.

The gas liquefaction plant will consist of three gas liquefaction lines with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year each, i.e. the total capacity will be 16.5 million tons. As I said above, the first stage will be launched in 2017, the next in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Now 100% of the foundations of the first stage have already been prepared, and the main equipment (including a cryogenic heat exchanger) has been delivered.

The share capital in OJSC Yamal LNG is distributed as follows: our controlling shareholder is NOVATEK, 20% went to the French in the person of Total, the Chinese also did not miss their luck, CNPC owns 20%, and the Chinese Silk Road Fund (SRF) - 9.9%.

Some interesting statistics. The total weight of the Yamal LNG plant is 650 thousand tons. Of these, 500 thousand tons are technological modules, and 150 thousand tons are overpasses. The entire plant will consist of 360 modules, of which there will be 111 technological modules. In 2015, 7 modules were delivered, thereby checking the logistics chain; in 2016, they plan to deliver 79 modules to the site, which will make it possible to launch the first stage.

As for the technological process itself. The hydrocarbon mixture from the wells will be supplied via gas collection to a single integrated complex for the preparation and liquefaction of natural gas. Where will the separation first take place, i.e. separation of mechanical impurities, water, methanol and condensate from gas. After which, the separated gas will be supplied to liquefaction lines and subsequently undergo purification from acid gases and traces of methanol, drying and removal of mercury, extraction of ethane, propane and heavier hydrocarbon fractions. The already purified gas is then sent for pre-cooling and liquefaction. And then the LNG is supplied for storage into special closed-type isothermal tanks.

14. The first technological line is blooming behind me

16. Future LPG storage tanks

17. We were very lucky, we were allowed inside, in a few weeks it will be brewed and everyone else missed their chance.

22. As we see, there will be four of them (4x160,000 m3). The overall readiness of the tanks is currently 75.3%. The first two will be fully ready by November 2016.

29. The power plant will be equipped with eight SGT-800 gas turbine units (Siemens) with a capacity of 47 MW each and four heat recovery modules (UTO-40) produced by the same Siemens company, with a nominal thermal power of 40 MW each.

36. At the moment, the overall readiness of the Yamal LNG GTPP is 60.2%. The installation of gas turbine units (GTU) 1-4 has already been completed. The launch of the first stage is scheduled for this year. JSC VO Technopromexport is responsible for the construction.

37. And so that the weather would not interfere with the construction site, luxurious production and assembly shops were built here.

So, what is so good about Yamal LNG? Firstly, the plant itself is located right on the South Tambeyskoye field, and its reserves are amazing.

Secondly, mining here is significantly cheaper, since Mother Nature herself helps us. Yes, the climate here is harsh, of course, in most of Russia there is already a big plus in temperature, but here on May 5, when I actually arrived here, it was minus 10. And in winter, more than 40 is the norm, but in summer you can sunbathe a little, but it goes away quickly . And under these conditions, due to the low average annual temperature, less specific energy is required for gas liquefaction, which allows achieving higher volumes of LNG production compared to similar projects located in southern latitudes.

I read the material of the respected Brekotin today .

As always, there are citizens for whom the construction of a new Russian enterprise is like a knife to the heart.

And Russia doesn’t need construction, and the investments are wrong, and the workers are wrong, and the equipment is wrong, and the buyers are bastards, everything, without a doubt. Well, God is their judge. This is their fate - to criticize, sitting in a warm apartment, without lifting their butts from the sagging sofa.

And for normal people, I suggest you look: what is Yamal LNG- In fact. So: look and rejoice for our heroic builders and the capabilities of Russian industry.

The whole truth about Yamal LNG

I was again drawn to the north, far, far away, beyond the Arctic Circle, to the Yamal Peninsula in Sabetta, where one of the largest projects in the oil and gas sector in recent years is being implemented - Yamal LNG. To understand, $22 billion has already been invested in it (a total of about $27 billion is planned). The liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant itself will operate on the resource base of the South Tambeyskoye field, and its capacity will be 16.5 million tons per year. Last May I was already in these parts http://zavodfoto.livejournal.com/4827701.html, then the overall readiness for the entire project was about 51.3%, and the readiness for the first stage was 64.4%. How things are today, I will show and tell you everything, fortunately the company PJSC NOVATEK, a shareholder of the project, is very open in this matter and is not afraid of me :).

2. Experienced a moment of deja vu. The speaker this time was Dmitry Monakov, already familiar to me, the first deputy director of the project.

3. And straight to the numbers. At the moment, the overall readiness for the entire project is 77-78%, and for the first stage of the plant it is already 88%. This is, in fact, what the first phase should look like by the end of the year.

The South Tambeyskoye field is located in the North-East of the Yamal Peninsula and belongs to the West Siberian oil and gas province. It was opened back in 1974. The field consists of 5 shallow gas formations and 37 deep gas condensate formations. The depth of the deposits varies from 900 to 2850 m. The dimensions of the deposit from south to north are about 70 km and from east to west - about 30-35 km. In total, they plan to drill 208 production wells with a horizontal end at 19 well pads at the field (the required 58 wells have already been drilled for the first stage, and a total of 78 have already been drilled at the moment. At the same time, only 35 wells are needed for the second stage, and about 35 for the third stage as well -38. The rest will have to maintain the necessary flow rate for the full operation of the plant). Proven and probable reserves amount to about 1.3 trillion cubic meters of gas and 60 million tons of condensate. The license to develop the field belongs to the Yamal LNG company and is valid until 2045. This resource base should be enough for at least 25-30 years of confident work.

The Yamal LNG plant will consist of three gas liquefaction trains with a capacity of 5.5 million tons per year each, i.e. the total capacity will be 16.5 million tons. In addition, the production complex will include liquefied hydrocarbon gas fractionation units, stable condensate and refrigerant storage parks, as well as other general plant engineering systems and flare units.

The entire plant will be built from 360 modules, of which there will be 111 technological modules. The first such module was delivered to the construction site on September 21, 2015. This core equipment is produced in 7 Chinese and 3 Indonesian shipyards. The total weight of the LNG plant is 650 thousand tons, of which 150 thousand tons are racks, and 500 thousand tons are the process modules themselves.

In the fall of 2016, all 78 modules required for the first stage, including the central control room, were delivered to Sabetta. Nevertheless, there are still 57 modules left to be delivered to the plant’s territory (for the second and third stages), which will appear here according to plan before the end of 2017.

8. On this day it was minus 30 here, and there was still a very strong wind at the altitude, but how could this stop me, who is in love with our industry? Therefore, almost blindly, since all my glasses are fogged up and frozen, I conquer and conquer all the lush heights of the plant :-)

9. Yes, well, in a year we’ve done a lot of business here, we’ve built a lot of things, well done, keep it up, we’ve definitely surprised!

11. We didn’t feel shy, we walked around inside...

The start of LNG production on the first line is planned for 2017, while the first deliveries of liquefied natural gas from here should take place before the end of this year.

16.Tanks for storing liquefied gas, there are four of them in total (4x160,000 m3). In permafrost conditions, each tank is built on a foundation of 948 piles, each 24 meters deep, with a thermal stabilizer installed next to each. In 2016, all of them were built and passed the necessary hydrotests. The main platforms of pumping equipment are installed on the first two tanks.

18. We climbed to one of the reservoirs. Their height is 54 meters. By the way, last year I was inside it, but now the way there is already closed.

20. An important component of the project is its own generation. A new gas turbine power plant with a capacity of 376 MW will be built here, the thermal power plant will be 160.0 MW. You see, on the right you can see an orange, blue and white building with pipes, that’s it. The first gas turbine with a capacity of 47 MW should be launched this spring. Thus, it will create the energy foundation for launching the first stage of the plant. It’s no secret that I’m partial to energy, so I’ll write a separate post about it.

As for the production process, it can be briefly described as follows. From the wells, gas is transported to the plant through a pipeline system. They are above ground here. When the gas enters the LNG plant, it is lightly conditioned to ensure the best possible liquefaction process. To do this, condensate is separated from the gas (these are liquid fractions that are simply dissolved in the gas at formation pressure and are in a state like steam), methanol (used for production, such as lubricant) and other unnecessary impurities. By the way, condensate also remains in use; it goes through a pipeline system into special tanks (there are 3 tanks of 50,000 m3 each for this purpose) and when a special tanker arrives, it is also shipped to consumers. Clean (prepared) ideally dry gas is supplied for liquefaction and then stored in tanks. In addition, in order to obtain a high-quality final product, carbon dioxide and mercury released during the cleaning process are removed.

On November 13, 2016, cryogenic heat exchangers were delivered to Sabbeta for the second and third lines of the plant, but for the first line, a similar heat exchanger has already been installed in the right place. The main cryogenic heat exchanger is considered the “heart” of the LNG plant, because it is inside it that the final cooling of natural gas to a liquid state is carried out. The heat exchanger itself is made of aluminum alloy and consists of several tube bundles wound onto a central core. The total length of the pipes exceeds 43 km.

35. Currently, about 27,500 people work at the construction site.

40. Our next stop is the Arctic sea port, which is also part of the general infrastructure of the plant. I also wrote about him last time: http://zavodfoto.livejournal.com/4838728.html

41. By the way, thanks to Yamal LNG, cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route has doubled. And in total, more than 10 million tons of cargo have already been delivered to the seaport of Sabetta since 2012.

Another powerful construction project, on which a serious bet is being made both from the point of view of the development of the region, its infrastructure and new jobs, and from the point of view of attracted investments, is the plant in Yamal.

Foreign investors can join the project for the construction of a liquefied gas production plant. At least, Minister Ulyukaev says that negotiations with French banks are moving forward, and the Russian side is full of optimism.

From a four-kilometer depth to the surface. The first cubic meters of natural gas in 40 years. The South Tambeyskoye field, discovered back in the 70s in Yamal, has not been developed all this time due to imperfect technology. The harsh Arctic was taking its toll. But today, Russian-made drilling stations don’t care about 50-degree frosts or permafrost.

About 50 wells have already been drilled, more than 200 are planned, the volume of reserves in the field will last for decades. The blue fuel will immediately go to the gas liquefaction plant, which is being built here, in the northeast of Yamal.

Liquid gas will be stored here at a temperature of minus 165 degrees. Such a tank could easily accommodate several huge transport aircraft. The volume of each of the four tanks is 160,000 cubic meters.

“No one has ever made such reservoirs beyond the Arctic Circle. No country in the world beyond the Arctic Circle has reservoirs, only the Russian Federation!” - said Renat Garifulin, Deputy Head of the Quality Control Department of the Capital Construction Department of Yamal LNG OJSC.

Giant gas tankers will come to collect the finished product. Yamal is also a unique port, so gas will go directly from here to markets: the Asia-Pacific region and Europe. For example, contracts have already been concluded with China, India and Spain for a quarter of a century.

Five years ago there was nothing here. Only ice, snow and permafrost. From the smallest screw to construction equipment and materials for these huge liquefied gas storage tanks, absolutely everything is delivered here by sea. Over the years, six million tons of cargo have passed through the port of Sabetta.

Icebreakers bring cargo ships to the port in tugs, otherwise it is simply impossible to navigate through the almost two-meter ice. But soon all these blocks near the pier may simply disappear. Divers are already working on installing experimental ice protection.

“This system will consist of several pipes that will be pulled from the bottom of the pier with hot water and air. And due to the so-called bubbling, the rise of this warm water to the surface, the freezing of ice on the berth wall will be controlled,” says Valery Vedernikov, chief diving specialist of Yamal LNG OJSC.

Cargo ships go to Sabetta via the Northern Sea Route, mainly from Arkhangelsk. It is here that supplies for the construction of the plant flow from literally all over the country.

Products for the plant are produced in 25 regions of Russia. For example, the Volgograd Petroleum Engineering Plant developed equipment for gas liquefaction. And in Cherepovets, metal structures and pipelines are manufactured. Thanks to this order, a new workshop was built here and the most modern equipment was purchased.

“The order itself is interesting and has brought the team together quite strongly. New specialists have arrived,” says Dmitry Saliy, production manager of Pervy Koksokhimmontazh OJSC.

Entire production buildings and structures of the future plant are also designed and manufactured in Krasnoyarsk. A local technological mechanical engineering enterprise has switched to round-the-clock operation. There is no need to complain; before the Yamal order, the plant had a decline in production.

“We had to hire up to 100 people just to ensure this process. We attracted several schools and institutes that directly trained these specialists according to the target program for us,” said Alexey Semernya, executive director of KrasPTM CJSC.

In the shift camp itself on Yamal, 15,000 people live and work. Dozens of dormitories, canteens, gyms, even its own fire station and police department.

Most of the buildings are prefabricated block structures. They were made in Vologda. For Arctic housing, a unique insulation is used; it was developed specifically for the Yamal project.

“The buildings were designed for a design temperature of minus 65 degrees. We didn’t test it further, but I think that this design can withstand lower temperatures,” said Roman Begunov, lead designer of SKDM JSC.

A dormitory for 300 people can be built in three weeks. Ready-made blocks are supplied to Yamal; they are simply connected to each other like a construction set.

The hostel block is already ready to be sent to Yamal, they are literally handed over turnkey, everything in the premises is almost ready. Doors, windows, fine finishing, even electrical wiring. All that remains is to lay the linoleum and insert the lamps - all this is already included in the kit.

There are direct flights from Moscow and other cities to the rotational village of Sabetta. An international class airport was built here. To build a runway in permafrost conditions, special geosynthetic materials were needed that were not produced in Russia. At first the order was planned to be placed in England. But at one of the Divnogorsk enterprises they mastered new technologies and launched such production. Especially for deliveries to Yamal.

Yamal LNG is a very advanced project. Designers and builders use the most modern solutions. And, in my opinion, this is very important when projects like these bring new materials and new products into our Russian reality, which make it possible to obtain higher quality products at a lower price,” says Andrey Putivsky, CEO of the Techpolymer group of companies.

More orders for Russian enterprises means greater production volumes, which means tax deductions increase. So the plant under construction in Yamal is helping the Russian economy today. Its first production line will start operating next year. Yamal LNG will reach full capacity by 2019.

LNG PLANT IN YAMAL

An LNG plant with a capacity of approximately 16.5 million tons is being built directly at the South Tambey gas field, on the Gulf of Ob. The construction involves a modular type of installation, which seriously reduces the financial costs of construction and determines the project implementation schedule. This project will contain 3 natural gas liquefaction trains with a capacity of 5.5 million tons each year. The first launch is planned for 2017. Taking into account the low average Arctic temperatures, much less specific energy is required for the gas liquefaction process, this makes it possible to achieve large volumes of LNG production compared to projects located in the South and using similar equipment. After the plant starts up hydrocarbon production the mixture from the field's wells will be transported through gas collection networks to a single complex for gas preparation and liquefaction. Next, at the entrance of the complex there will be a separation process. The input structures include installations that regenerate methanol and stabilize condensate. The separated natural gas will go to technological lines where liquefaction and purification from acid gases and methanol will take place, as well as drying and removal of mercury, extraction of ethane, propane and other heavy hydrocarbons. Next, the purified natural gas will be sent for cooling and liquefaction. The LNG will be further stored in closed isothermal tanks. It is planned to build 4 reservoirs with a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters. m. each. Jobs at the LNG plant IN YAMAL vacancies - read on.
